Kid Who Explored Titanic Wreck in 2005 Recalls Falling Unconscious Inside Submersible

In 2005, when Sebastian Harris was age 13, he explored the Titanic in a Russian Mir II submersible with a group of passengers and his dad. But his experience wasn't quite as memorable as some might think.

According to People, Harris said he "fell unconscious" during the 12-hour journey to the wreck, 12,500 feet underwater. The incident occurred during "a small safety issue" that caused their oxygen levels to drop. He added that he did quickly regain consciousness.

"Thankfully we had oxygen meters inside the sub that were showing lower oxygen levels than normal. So we cranked it up, and then I was back in the game,” he recalled, adding that "these activities are inherently dangerous," the U.S. Sun reported.

The other passengers, including Harris' dad, were not impacted by the drop of oxygen in the submersible.

He currently holds the Guinness World Record title for the youngest diver to explore the Titanic. The achievement is commemorated with a plaque on the ship's bridge.

Harris' story comes just days after the Titan submersible imploded in the ocean. Passengers inside the submersible included father and son Shahzada and Suleman Dawood. As Mom.com previously reported, Suleman brought his Rubik's Cube on board with him, intending to set a record for the deepest completion of the complex puzzle. Suleman was a wizard at the Rubik's Cube, completing the puzzle in just 12 seconds.

Suleman never got the chance to to set the record, but his mom says she plans to see out his passion projects and learn how to do the puzzle on her own.

Also on the submersible were OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, pilot Hamish Harding, and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
