As busy moms who are continually wearing an assortment of hats — from the disciplinarian down to the person who knows every word to all of Ms. Rachel’s songs. It definitely depends on your headspace, but there are some days for moms when they put their organization hat on and just go to town on everything that feels unnecessary or unaesthetic within the home.

One mom on TikTok recently caught some heat for removing all the warning labels from items like her baby’s car seat and pack ‘n play. Sure, it may look a little better, but a lot of people in the comments are pointing out why these labels are a necessity.

So many of us dream of being those super organized aesthetic moms where everything has their place and looks perfect within the home. Once you have a child, though, reality looks much different and oftentimes, things quickly get messy and completely unaesthetic — which is totally fine!

An expectant mom named Natalie shared on TikTok the process she used for removing the warning and safety labels from her little one’s car seat and what appears to be a pack and play. She went through the process and showed how she used a seam ripper and a hand steamer to remove the warning labels rather quickly.

If you’re someone who loves things to look super minimalist and fresh, it certainly does look better, but she may be missing a very important point. Natalie captioned the video very simply by stating, “Ok… but why?” Well, there’s a number of people in the comments who have some very good reasons for why those labels need to stay put!

Are Baby Car Seat Warning Labels Actually Required by Law?

Well, it appears that many people have swooped into the TikTok comments section to help set this expectant mother straight.

There were several people who stopped by to point out that they’re pretty sure those warning labels are legally required and not to be removed, which is why they’re stitched onto the items. One person shared, “In Australia, the US, and Europe it’s illegal to remove the safety labels from all car seats, it voids the seats compliance and can result significant penalties and/or void of insurance in the event of an accident. 👍🏻 do better research next time.”

Another person commented, “You can’t remove warning labels from car seats, they’re federally required safety labels. I’d recommend contacting Evenflo to see whether replacement labels are available or if the seat needs to be replaced.”

Another individual in the TikTok comments shared how important it is to keep them so any emergency responders can find information they might need in the event of an emergency. “First Responder Access: Emergency responders rely on these stickers to confirm the seat’s safety compliance and find model numbers if the child requires urgent medical assistance,” they wrote.

It turns out that in Canada, it is legally required that any warning or safety labels stay “permanently affixed” to the item, per cfmws.ca. So, it does pay to do a little research before you get your seam ripper and steamer out!

Mom Slammed for Prioritizing Looks Over Baby’s Car Seat Safety

Not to shame this expectant mother, because we all make mistakes, but there is loads of advice and commentary in the TikTok comments section about how not everything has to look aesthetic.

One person in the comments pointed out that safety always needs to be a top priority. “I guess safety information isn’t ✨aesthetic✨ 🙄,” they wrote. Another person chimed in with their thoughts by stating, “Not everything in parenthood needs to seem aesthetic.”

Another individual in the TikTok comments wanted the mom to know that there are reasons why the labels need to stay. “Those labels are there for a reason — especially for child safety,” they wrote. One mom could kind of relate to her reasoning, but she claimed that her kids’ safety would always come first. She wrote, “She’s doing it for aesthetics, I’m the type of girl who HATES labels, but I’ll NEVER remove a safety label that had to do with my kids safety, my kids safety over my aesthetic pleasing.”

Also, what about other the other people in your life who might be caring for your child who may need a safety reminder that’s written on the warning label? One mom wrote, “Not once was I concerned about the aesthetic enough to remove a warning label that has important information on my child’s safety.”

Perhaps her heart was in the right place and she was just in a nesting kind of mood where she wanted everything to look pretty, but removing the warning labels was so not the way to go!
