Internet Divided After Woman Refuses To Feed Hungry Neighbor Kid at Backyard BBQ

Have you ever been out for a walk or just enjoying some time with your family in the backyard and suddenly caught a whiff of someone grilling some really delicious barbecue? If you’re hungry or just not in the mood to cook, for some people, it can be very difficult to turn away from. Such was the case for a kid who recently went viral on social media. He was caught on his neighbor’s doorbell cam when he knocked on their door to ask if they were still grilling.

Essentially, he wanted to know if he could have some barbecue. The comments section is pretty divided in terms of what went on during this harmless interaction. Some would immediately make the child a plate of food while others are baffled that he felt it was okay to even ask.

A kid knocked on a neighbor’s door asking for some BBQ and got sent home with a bag of chips.

It’s really funny to live in the age where our interactions with neighbors and their kids can be captured on camera for all to see on the internet. What a time to be alive, right?

Someone recently shared a video on X that showed a kid who appears to be around 10 years old or so showing up on his neighbor’s doorstep to ask for some barbecue. “I ain’t trying to be rude, though, but you still grillin’?” he asked with a grin on his face as they opened their front door.

The couple who answer the door immediately started to laugh and tell him that they’re done grilling for the evening. The kid isn’t done there because he goes one step further and asks them if they happen to have some leftovers handy. When they turn him down again, you can tell that they start to feel a bit bad as they ask him if he lives up the street. When he confirms, he’s told that the next time they grill, they will save him some.

To soften the blow a bit, the child is offered a bag of Cheetos to take with him for the road. He looks a little disappointed, but he politely thanks the couple, takes the snack bag, and heads on his way.

Some folks in the comments would have no problem giving the child a plate of food.

It truly is such a strange time that we’re living in because the comments section is completely divided on whether or not the folks who answered their door here actually did right for the kid who came asking for some BBQ.

There are several people in the X comments who would have such a difficult time saying no to a hungry young person showing up on their doorstep. One person wrote, “There are a whole lot of shitty people on here… a kid knocks because he smells BBQ and guess what, you make him a plate.”

Another individual in the comments was appalled that the only thing they had to offer the kid was some chips. “A bag of chips? I’m fixing that baby a plate. And then I’m walking him home myself, knocking on that door, and asking his parents if it’s okay before he touches a crumb. That’s just how it has to be done,” they wrote.

Another person explained that if they had a kid in their neighborhood who needed just about anything, they would show up for them. “If a child comes to my door asking for food, water, bandaids, a phone, or help with fixing something they will get it. It doesn’t cost much to be a good neighbor,” they shared.

Other online critics are appalled that the kid was trained to think that this behavior is okay.

On the other side of the coin, there are loads of social media comments under this video from people who just can’t seem to wrap their minds around why a child would think it’s okay to show up on a stranger’s doorstep and ask for some food.

One person wrote, “Sounds to me like his parents haven’t taught him any manners. Either that or they’ve been teaching him to be entitled.” Another individual is fully putting it on the parents by sharing this thought, “The kid has already been trained on taking handouts. Parental fail.”

Another shared a parent’s perspective on the whole thing. “My kids knew better than to go knock on someone’s door asking for food! I would’ve been livid! But at the same time I wouldn’t have a problem with a kid ringing my doorbell maybe the kid was hungry,” they wrote. This take is probably a lot of parents’ feelings.

A few people can’t help but bring up how this type of situation could be very dangerous if the kid knocked on the wrong door. One person wrote, “Teach your kid some manners. Teach him about the dangers of knocking on people’s door…askin for food..leftovers. This is embarrassing.”

Another individual brought up a good point about food allergies and the potential dangers of taking food without knowing what’s in it first. They shared, “He shouldn’t be knocking on strangers door. I’m glad they didn’t feed him. What if he had allergies and got sick or died. The bag of chips was even too much. You don’t invite yourself over because the food smelled great. Take your a– home and fire up your grill.”

What are your thoughts on what happened here? Would you immediately run to the kitchen to make a plate for the kid or would you be more prone to politely send this child back home?
