What to Know
A family is getting blasted on social media for sharing pictures from the baby shower for a pair of young parents. The age of the two is the thing that is being the most intensely debated — while the family did not disclose their ages, people on social media began circulating that the girl is only 12, while the boy is 14. This has not been confirmed by anyone close to the family, in fact someone said the teen parents are actually 18. The rumor of their ages sparked a major debate: if the parents are underage, should a pregnancy be celebrated? Many believe that it shouldn’t, but some argue that if they’ve decided to have the baby, coming together and celebrating isn’t necessarily bad.
The family had no idea what was to come when they posted about the baby shower.
Sheila Marble originally shared the pictures on her Facebook, saying “They made me a Great Glamom❤️❤️😍.” In the pictures, she happily poses with the young parents-to-be, and included a few snaps of them together and the soon-to-be mom by herself.
“Congratulations glamma now I just got to remember which one that did this to you it’s been so long. Seriously she is carrying the bundle of joy well and I can only pray that the big guy has his mercy through their journey,” one person who appeared to be a friend wrote.
“Niece and nephew 💯💪,” someone else wrote.
However, the pictures began circulating around social media, causing people to leave very different comments.
“Why they on Instagram saying your daughter and him are 13 and 12 😭” one person wrote.
Another person, presumably a stranger, commented “Lady bye 12&13 Smdh.” Someone who likely knows the family responded, saying “Lady bye.. They are 18.. These are lies spreading.”
“Disgusting! You all should be ashamed of yourselves for celebrating a child having a baby! She is just a baby herself. Sickening! No moral ethics,” someone else commented.
“Stop believing everything you see on the internet she is not 12. That’s very bold of you to come on someone’s page and be rude without knowing facts,” one person replied. Another person added “if that information didn’t come from the family, what makes you think is true? If you are that dense that you believe everything you see on social media, maybe you should stay away.”
Once the pictures made it off Facebook, that was it.
Days after Marble’s initial post, the pictures began to circulate on X. By then, the rumor of the teen parents’ ages had already begun to circulate. People were mostly horrified and angry about the pregnancy, especially because they believed the parents were the age of middle schoolers.
“Young parents out here acting like teen pregnancy is a milestone instead of a mistake. The baby innocent, but stop throwing parties like everything perfect. Reality check needed,” one person wrote.
“Supporting her emotionally is necessary but presenting this like a typical milestone can send the wrong message. We can’t have this normalized,” someone else wrote.
“This isn’t normal at all. teen pregnancy should be illegal because both parents are too young.”
“Why are teens pregnancies even getting baby showers? This even being pushed by the parents is very concerning, both of them haven’t even finished high school.”
On the other hand, some people pointed out that the teen parents deserve support.
“If anyone needs a baby shower, it’s a twelve year old pregnant for a thirteen year old boy. The lack of sex education & adult supervision/support failed them, but it doesn’t mean their baby should also be abandoned. Punishing babies for having babies, makes no sense,” one person wrote.
“What are they supposed to do instead? Shame her and hide it?” another person asked.
“I mean the baby coming anyway. They supposed to hate her and say Fck the baby if she gonna keep it?? The child still gonna need love and guidance. Tf,” someone else wrote.
Another commenter replied, saying “all i can say is that at the end of the day, that baby gon need love. glad the family showing up.”
