Cat & Nat on 15 Years of Friendship, Teaching Kids Autonomy, and Parenting Wins

In a recent episode of "The Breakdown with Bethany," Cat and Nat, the dynamic duo known for their candid conversations on motherhood and friendship, joined host Bethany Braun-Silva to chat about their 15-year journey as friends and creators. The episode, full of laughter and real talk, touched on everything from raising teenagers to navigating new school routines.

A Friendship Built on Motherhood

Cat opened up about the longevity of their friendship, reminiscing about how it all started. “It was my daughter’s 15th birthday yesterday,” she shared, reflecting on how quickly the years have passed. Cat and Nat had been friends since high school, but it was Facebook that reconnected them after Cat had her first child. “We were the first to have babies… we’ve been creating since the boys were like 2, 1. That’s 11 years of doing things together,” she said. The two friends bonded not just over their shared experiences as new mothers but also their desire to create content that reflects the real side of parenting.

Cat also touched on the passage of time as a parent, something every mother can relate to. “I don’t know if any of us can grasp how quickly parenting goes by,” she said. As their children grow older, the reality of how fleeting those early years can be hits home. “You have a 15-year-old… I totally remembered those moms that had older kids, and I was like, ‘That seems so foreign.’ I can’t imagine ever having kids that age.”

Braces, Control, and Finding Relief

In a more personal conversation, Cat and Nat discussed the impact of modern orthodontic options, such as Invisalign, for their kids.

Cat reflected on her daughter’s experience and how it was a much smoother process than traditional braces. “For her, it was the most perfect option, and it was less painful. I didn’t have to touch her mouth,” she said, noting how much easier it was for her daughter to take control of her own dental care. The ease of using Invisalign removed some of the typical parental involvement, which is often fraught with frustration. “It took a load off me,” Cat explained. “She was so compliant and excited for it to work.”

As always, Cat and Nat’s candid conversation offered a refreshing mix of humor and heart, reminding us that while the journey of motherhood may be chaotic, it’s the shared experiences and small victories that make it all worthwhile.
