Luke Bryan Defends Katy Perry Even After She Mom-Shamed a Woman

Katy Perry has received a lot of flack recently for the choices she's made and things she's said as a judge on American Idol, but at least one person believes she's been treated unfairly. In a new interview, fellow judge Luke Bryan defended Katy, despite the fact that she's been accused of mom-shaming a contestant.

Recently Katy has come under fire for a few things she's said in the judge's chair

Mom Sarah Beth Liebe ultimately chose to drop out of the show after Katy shamed her for having three children at the age of 25.

After Sarah Beth joked on the show that she would "pass out" if Katy laid on the table, Katy replied, "Honey, you've been laying on the table too much."

Days later, Katy came under fire again for interrupting judge Lionel Richie, with many of her critics labeling her as "condescending."

Luke insisted that Katy's used to this kind of criticism

"Katy Perry's been dealing with stuff like that her whole career," Luke said in an interview with Fox News during CMA Fest in Nashville.

He added, "We all get it… I mean we're judging kids that people at home fall in love with… We're not gonna bat 1,000 as judges."

He believes that the judges get "set up"

After all, reality TV is meant to be entertaining, and that has to happen somehow.

"As judges, you know, we kinda fall on the sword a lot of times. And get set up to where people can get very vocal on socials and stuff," he said. He added, "My thing is, I think when me and Lionel [Richie] and Katy sit down at the desk, in our hearts, we're doing the best we can."

He says Katy gets "picked on" for trying to have fun on TV

"You can't be so safe in the moment that you're so homogenized, you can't ever go for a joke. Or go for a fun moment," he said. "Sometimes you just gotta say stuff. It may be my year next year."

For Luke, it only adds to his "appreciation" of Katy, since this kind of judgment is something she's been dealing with the entire time she's been in the spotlight, not just during her American Idol career.

He doesn't see any of the judges leaving anytime soon, including Katy

"We feel like we're doing beautiful work as a show, and we felt like this year was what we had all worked together to get to," Luke added.

Love her or hate her, people do keep tuning in to see what Katy's going to say or do next … so at least that means she's doing her job right. We just hope that it can happen with a bit less mom-shaming next season!
