Katy Perry Called ‘Condescending’ After Interrupting Lionel Richie on ‘American Idol’

Katy Perry isn't going to hear the end of this controversy anytime soon. After an American Idol contestant admitted to feeling mom-shamed by a comment the singer made during auditions, fans are calling Katy "condescending," after the contestant ultimately made the decision to send herself home.

An 'American Idol' contestant recently quit the show

Sara Beth Liebe, a 25-year-old mother of three, decided to leave the competition this week. After performing on Monday night's episode, Sara Beth announced her decision to the judges.

"This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance because my heart's at home," she said. "So I'm going get home to my babies. They kind of need me."

The judges, including Katy, tried to convince her to stay, but Sara Beth said she knew she wasn't going to win anyway and was feeling "guilt" for leaving her children behind.

The decision came after Katy made a comment about how many children Sara Beth has

During auditions, Katy — who is a mom to one child — made a comment about how Sara Beth must have been "laying on the table too much" to have so many children at such a young age.

Later, Sara Beth took to TikTok to admit that she did feel embarrassed by Katy's comment, telling her followers that she believes that "mom-shaming is super lame."

Viewers are not impressed by Katy's behavior

As Fox News reported, viewers are weighing in on an Instagram post shared by host Ryan Seacrest, and it's not positive.

"Katy is so rude and condescending to the contestants unless it’s a male cutie then she acts like a teenage fool," one person wrote.

Another Idol fan commented, "the Katy Perry remarks were rude."

Katy's behavior toward one of the other judges is making headlines, too

As The Sun pointed out, Katy was caught interrupting fellow judge Lionel Richie during one moment of Tuesday night's episode, with fans speaking their minds about the situation on Reddit.

"He’s always leaning in and trying to engage but Katy and Luke are so tight it’s hard to break through," one person wrote. "I love Katy and Luke’s dynamic but I also wish they would try to be less exclusive."

It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes

Will Katy take this criticism and use it to become a better judge, or will things continue to spiral from here? We're not sure, but we hope that Sara Beth doesn't regret her choice to leave.

We do know her kids must have been so glad to have her home, though (and the feeling was likely mutual). It's hard to be away from our kids!
