What to Know
One of the funniest things about social media is that you never know what you’re going to find on there. For example, you could be scrolling through TikTok and all of a sudden you’re met with a video of a woman who threw herself what she called a “sperm shower.” We’ve likely all attended our fair share of baby showers and even gender reveals, but Emily Webb decided to have a little fun and enlist some help from her loved ones with choosing the sperm donor for her IVF process. From the looks of the TikTok video that Emily shared, this party looked like a total riot and they should maybe become a new sensation!
Emily Webb has gone viral for sharing an inside look at her “sperm shower” party.
Thirty-six-year-old, Emily Webb, captioned her viral TikTok video in part by saying that “part of this process involves creating embryos with a sperm donor. There isn’t really anything fun about IVF so [she] decided to take the opportunity to enjoy this part.” Honestly, kudos to her on creativity and confidence!
You can watch the full video here.
Emily is the first person to explain that the very idea of throwing a “sperm shower” to enlist her friends and family in helping her pick a sperm donor for her IVF process is a little “extra,” but she notes in the caption for the video that she was facing difficulties narrowing things down on her own.
So, this is exactly when you do things like hang up a sign on your fireplace mantel that reads “Donor Draft” in big pink letters and give everyone score cards to fill out as you go through your picks.
There were also an assortment of fizzy drinks and other on-theme foods like a “nacho daddy” bar and desserts — we have to ask, would you take a slice of that sperm shaped cake? We’re not sure. We might just need a fizzy drink to help choke it down!
Emily decided to go the single mom route with the help of IVF after striking out in dating.
In a fun celebration that she described as a “mix between a bachelorette and baby shower,” Emily told People that when she started inching towards 35 and she “didn’t see [her] dating life going anywhere,” she became “more worried about [her] biological clock.”
Emily explained to the magazine that she lives in a small town and even though she dates, she still hasn’t met the right person. “My timeline to have a husband doesn’t necessarily have a deadline (certainly becomes more complicated), but my biological clock does,” she told People.
She knew that she “couldn’t picture life without motherhood,” and she was tired of waiting around for the right partner, so she decided to go for it. It certainly sounds like Emily has a go-getter spirit that’s perfect for a mother!
Her and about 20 friends and family just had fun with the silly theme with a purpose in mind.
Even though Emily works as an RN IBCLC (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant), she explained to People that the IVF process has not been easy on her. She doesn’t have a local fertility clinic, so she had to drive 1.5 hours to get her bloodwork done every other day throughout the egg retrieval process.
She’s hoping to fertilize some eggs and do an embryo transfer, which is where the sperm shower idea came into play. She invited about 20 friends and family to go through a “donor draft,” to help her find the best pick.
She explained that she created a sort of photo presentation for each of the donor picks with short descriptions where they looked at information like their health and family history, heard some of their voices, and even some letters that they had written, People reported.
Now that Emily has officially picked a donor, she hopes to create embryos in the coming months.
One thing is for sure, when this child is old enough, they are very likely to crack up and cringe at the thought of this whole sperm shower idea!
