What to Know
Most people have heard of catfishing someone on social media, but to do it on your wedding day? That takes things to a whole other level. So when someone shared a video on X of a bride getting pads sewn into her shape-wear for her big day, it sparked a wild conversation on the social media platform about what is and isn’t acceptable.
Of course, a bride can wear whatever she feels most comfortable in. But for those who have never heard of having pads under wedding dresses to create different body shapes, the visual of seeing the bride have actual butt pads sewn on her underclothing is a bit jarring. And there is a bit of a debate going on about whether or not it really is catfishing.
People think the bride is the ultimate catfish.

It turns out, padding like the sewn in pads shown in the video on X are actually a thing. But that still doesn’t make it any easier for some people to understand or get behind. When the user shared the video on X, people quickly showed up in the comments to call out the bride and accuse her of presenting herself as something she isn’t.
“POV: Wedding dress designer sculpts the perfect hourglass gown on the bride with built-in butt pads, curves & waist cinching,” the user wrote in their post.
Someone replied, “It is absolutely ridiculous to wear a fake butt on your wedding day. I mean you go into the church with a f–k you message, Lord I am not happy with the job you made but can you still bless my future family life?”
“As a man, I wanted my wife to look like herself for our wedding,” a former groom added. “I would have been annoyed if my wife did something this silly.”
Someone else called it “false advertising.”
The logistics of the padding make no sense.

To other people, it’s hard to understand the reasoning behind changing your body shape for one day. They also don’t really get how it works. As in, if a bride chooses a wedding gown that doesn’t fit her, how does she then decide how big to make the padding and how to explain to her guests why she looks so different?
“So when the honeymoon night comes, she undresses to reveal [a] pancake ASS?” An X user wrote.
Another person commented, “So you’re catfishing on your wedding day? What the actual f–k is he gonna do when he finna grab them cheeks and realize ain’t s–t there?”
It does seem like the padding is a service that some bridal shops might offer. Or, it’s an easy fix, so to speak, for alterations. But the idea behind adding padding to a wedding dress is still a totally foreign concept to those who never even considered it to be a possibility.
Padding under wedding dresses is apparently sort of common.
So wait a second here. They're sewing buttock padding into wedding dresses now? Isn't that like, false advertising or something? 🤨😂 pic.twitter.com/F7UeWx5CMR

In the X video, the bride seems totally comfortable allowing multiple people to help her get the right padding for the right shape under her wedding gown. Maybe that’s because, according to the internet, this is actually a thing. In a Reddit post about using hip padding for a wedding dress, other users shared their thoughts in support of having the padding.
“Makes the waist look snatched,” one user commented, in reference to the photo that the Redditor posted.
“I love it too!!” Another person wrote. “The more dramatic difference between the tiny waist and wider hip area is so flattering.”
Someone else asked for opinions on another Reddit thread regarding silicone inserts to add hip and butt padding in shape-wear under wedding dresses. And, judging by the comments alone, some people even use these types of inserts in everyday life. So either they’re all out here catfishing or the bride deserves a little grace. Or, maybe a little of both.
