Laughing Gas Unlocks Tween’s Inner Broadway Diva at the Orthodontist

Sometimes, all it takes is a little laughing gas to bring out your best hidden talents. Or, you know, something like that. When a user named Rachel on Instagram shared a Reel of her nephew belting out “Defying Gravity” from Wicked while seemingly on laughing gas in his orthodontist’s chair at the dentist’s office, it showed how his talent came out in spades.

Rachel doesn’t say in her video the circumstances which led to her nephew singing the song and carrying notes like Cynthia Erivo herself, but at some point, the kid felt comfortable enough to sing his little heart out. No one interrupts him, especially during the particularly long notes, and now everyone in the comments wants to know when this kid is going on Broadway. Um, same.

The kid clearly has a hidden singing talent when it comes to Wicked.

Anyone can sing a song from the Wicked soundtrack. It’s also pretty easy to harmonize with Cynthia or Ariana Grande when you are singing at the top of your lungs in your car along to the soundtrack blasting through your speakers. But to do that a capella is a whole other ball game, and it’s one that this tween has down to a science in the Instagram Reel.

He holds the notes of the song where Cynthia famously calls out about no one bringing her down. Not once does he miss a beat, and, as they say, he leaves no crumbs. In another video, Rachel wrote in the caption that the office allowed her nephew to sing the rest of the song, and at 8 a.m. at that. Who knows, they might be huge Wicked fans and wanted to hear the kid’s rendition of the iconic “Defying Gravity.”

When you are given laughing gas or are put to sleep at the dentist’s office, you might say or do totally off the wall things when you wake up. For this kid, it’s not totally clear if he was given laughing gas, though some users in the comments think he was, and that this is why he felt brazen enough to sing the Wicked song like he’s auditioning for the role to take Cynthia’s place.

“Imagine being in the next room on laughing gas yourself and hearing this,” one person commented. I mean, he is singing as loudly as possible, though with this particular song, it’s always a go big or go home moment.

Someone else joked, “This everybody’s nephew at this point!! That baby was SANGIN!!! Bless his heart! High as a kite but man he blowing!!! Brings a tear to my eye!”

Another person commented that “He hit that haaaah ahhh ahhh ahhhh ooohh.” If you’ve ever heard a Wicked song, seen the movie, or caught a snippet of Cynthia singing “Defying Gravity,” then you know exactly the moment the person is talking about. And yes, this kid nailed it on various levels.
