The mom has documented the relationship between her son and her father
Shelby Vanhoy, an interior designer, shared a video on her TikTok showing her toddler running to the door to greet her father, whom the little boy affectionately calls “Bop.”
“When you move to the same state as your grandpa, call him Bop, and have Bop Day every Thursday …,” Vanhoy wrote on the video.
It's clear how much her son loves his Bop
In the clip, 2-year-old Brooks excitedly runs up to the door to be the first one to see his beloved Bop. He scampers, sprints, and hops with an enthusiastic “Hi Bop!” or “Bop’s here!”
“Forever my favorite part about our move ❤️ treasuring these days,” Vanhoy captioned the post.

The relationship between Brooks and his Bop is incredibly special
Vanhoy spoke to Fox News Digital about the video, telling them that she and her family moved from New York City back to her hometown in North Carolina, specifically to be closer to her family. And with the move, Brooks’ relationship with his Bop, Mike Vanhoy, has grown immensely.
“Bop is retired, and he’s been coming over every Thursday morning for ‘Bop Day’ since we moved back to North Carolina,” she said.
The name 'Bop' came up organically
“As soon as Brooks spots Bop’s truck through the front door, he jumps up and down with joy, yelling, ‘Bop’s here!'” Vanhoy said, adding that “the excitement is always infectious.”
Speaking on the relationship between Brooks and Mike, she called the duo “best friends.”
“I think their friendship has also added a lot of joy to my dad’s life,” she said.
And just how did Brooks come up with the name Bop? Vanhoy explained that she was trying to teach Brooks how to say “Pop” but was unsuccessful. “Bop is what stuck, and it’ll probably stay Bop forever now,” she admitted.
People can't get over the love between Brooks and Bop
“Truly what life is all about moments like this!” one commenter wrote. “I can only imagine Bop is grinning ear to ear when he hears his name.”
“As someone who grew up seeing their grandpa on a regular basis, this made me tear up. I hope you treasure your time together ,” another person wrote.
There were close to a dozen comments on the video from people who also use the name “Bop” for the grandpas in their lives, much to Vanhoy’s surprise. “My fave part about this video is learning about other bops ❤️,” she replied to one comment.
