As I approach 40, the idea of having another kid terrifies me. My kid is 12 and grows more independent every day. If I had a kid now, I’d be completely starting over, and frankly, I’m too tired for that. I can’t imagine how I’d be if my kid was older. But not all moms feel the way I do. Stephanie Nicole Dyer, a “sports mom” with over 63,000 followers on Instagram found out that she was pregnant over 40 with her fourth child in late 2025. She already has three kids who are either fully or almost grown up. The mom shared a video of her telling them she’s pregnant again, and they had the best reaction.
She told them in such a fun way.
Dyer shared the video on her Instagram account. She was so clever by staging what her kids believed was going to be a selfie. Of course, her kids are bickering with each other and making the moment difficult; even if they’re big kids, they’re still kids. When she finally gets them all in the frame, she drops her big news.
Beginning a countdown, the mom had them all say “Mom’s pregnant” instead of “cheese.” While her daughter immediately understood what she was saying, her two sons took a few beats to catch on. But once they did, it was worth it!
“When your siblings are old enough to process the shock in real time,” the 43-year-old captioned the video. “Everybody needed a minute…or five.”
It’s safe to say Dyer never imagined she’d be pregnant over 40.
Dyer’s kids are 27, 20, and 17 years old, she revealed in the video. Her 20-year-old daughter was definitely the most shocked by the whole thing, immediately running out of frame to make sense of what she’d just heard.
Her sons stood in shock, and her daughter tried to go into the house before Dyer beckoned her back outside. “I’m so serious,” she said as the kids began to express their shock.
“So I’m not the baby no more?” her youngest asked, even though he’s towering over her.
“I don’t know what reaction you want from us,” her oldest son said.
The kids’ shock was justified.
“They’ve never heard me talk about having another baby,” Dyer said in an exclusive interview with People. “They’ve always heard that mom is finished, and this was even after my youngest, Jasiah, begged me for a baby sibling when he was around 8 years old.”
She explained that she was “very nervous” about how her kids would react to her news. But despite their confusion, the moment was “perfect” for Dyer. Even though she told them on Thanksgiving, she wasn’t sure if her daughter, a college athlete, would be home. But then she was.
Once the shock wore off, her kids were very on board with having a new little sibling.
Dyer told People that after the camera stopped rolling, she and her kids had a deeper conversation inside the house. Even if they were initially hesitant about their mom being pregnant over 40, they were very excited for her and her husband.
“It was one of those moments you can’t script, and I’m glad my mom captured it,” her daughter Jaloni told the outlet. “Family has always been my foundation, and my mom is the center of that. I’m really excited to watch her step into this new chapter.”
And it’s not just Jaloni who is fully on board. According to Dyer, her kids have been “so supportive” since they found out, even going out to fetch her latest craving. Her oldest son Jalon makes sure she’s resting, and is helping shuttle his younger brother Jasiah is also being tended to.
“I’m grateful to be full of new wisdom and patience that I might not of had when my oldest three were younger,” she said.
