What to Know
Can we all agree that when you’re a mom with a baby at home, especially when things are super fresh when it comes to parenting you’re trying to be as present as possible with our little one, it can be very difficult to find the time and energy to workout or even get your daily steps in. A mom has gone viral on TikTok for posting a video that shows her walking super briskly on a walking pad within her home with a baby strapped to her front in a carrier. The video features a caption that may or may not be insulting to some moms. Are you immediately annoyed or instantly motivated upon seeing an unapologetic postpartum fitness video from a young mom on social media? Let’s discuss!
A mom goes viral on TikTok after posting a video showing how she ‘makes no excuses’ when it comes to postpartum fitness.
There are always going to be moms going viral on TikTok for some reason or another, and truly, that’s the fun of it all! A young mom named Lauren (user name laurenlawton123) has been getting major views on one of her latest videos she’s posted to social media because there’s a lot to say about the topic of postpartum fitness. A lot of parents may find if hard to even find the time to go for a daily walk when they have a baby to care for. And when they have a couple of young kids? It may seem nearly impossible!
The TikTok shows Lauren in a workout-ready ensemble, which includes running shoes, leggings, and a hoodie, and a happy baby strapped to her front in a carrier, walking at a speedy pace on a portable walking pad in her house.
What’s really set some people off is the caption of this video as it poses the question, “How do you look so good postpartum?” This question is answered right below with the words “I make no excuses.” Does something like this come off as a bit smug or is she just trying to motivate her TikTok audience with her actions? Who knows!
The caption of the video further explains her motivation, but is this realistic for a lot of moms?
For some moms, even though it may seem utterly ridiculous because you just grew and birthed an actual human being, the second the baby comes out, they are immediately thinking about the moment their doctor is going to give them the okay to workout so they can try and lose the baby weight.
@laurenlawton123 Honestly getting your 10k steps in is a must and has helped me loose so much weight! This time of year is also hard to get out so having a walking pad in the house is so easy to get them steps in! Girls walking is the most easiest way to get your step goals and loose weight ! #fyp #walkingpad #postpartum #fitness #2under2 ♬ original sound – Sofflyze
Lauren explains in her TikTok video caption how “getting your 10k steps in is a must and has helped [her lose] so much weight.” She explains that especially in the winter time, using a walking pad within the comfort your home is “so easy,” as you don’t even have to step foot outdoors in the cold. Okay, we totally agree there, but what about the moms where it’s just not possible.
One mom leaves a comment on the video that says, “I wish I could’ve done this but I was so in energy saving mode when my son was under 1 years old. Sleep deprived.” Relatable!
On the other side of things, another mom related to Lauren’s “no excuses” stance when it comes to getting her daily steps in as she commented, “This… people telling [me] ‘you’re so lucky you snapped back so quickly,’ girl, I was walking anywhere from 3 to 7 miles a day.” Wow. That is commitment, my friend!
Is a walking pad the best choice for a mom with a baby strapped in a carrier? Some are not so sure.
The thing to immediately clock when you’re a mother, especially when you post about it online, is that there are always going to be other moms out there who have something to say, and some won’t hesitate to call you out, even if you’re doing something that you deem to be perfectly safe.
For instance, when some individuals saw the mom using a portable walking pad, they had some things to say. One individual commented, “This is very dangerous without a handle bar and safety clip! If you lose your footing, you are going down and sending your baby right into the moving belt.” Another person shares, “Sorry, my anxiety wouldn’t have allowed for this… I’d be constantly freaking about losing [my footing] and falling straight onto lil bubba!!”
One person jumped to this mom’s defense by stating, “Why are people literally hating on her walking on a walking pad? Some people just like to hate.” It’s so true! Sometimes you really can’t win.
Whether a walking pad with your baby in tow is your thing or not, we’d like to think that this mom is confident enough to decide things for herself!
