What to Know
Giving your teenager the ability to live at home, but also get the freedom and privacy that a “she shed” offers can be a double-edged sword, especially if you decide to share those sheds on social media (say that five times fast). One mom on TikTok did just that in a video where she gives tours of her teenagers’ tiny home sheds on her property. And it would be totally fine, according to other users, if she didn’t also forget to fully insulate each domicile and provide adequate electricity for her teens.
Now, the mom is getting called out for what other people see as laziness when it comes to her way of giving her kids some freedom and responsibility in their family property. Other users commented to joke about the teenagers’ messes.
Apparently, you can take the teenager out of the house (literally), but you can’t take the messiness out of the teenager. And even the mom who shared the TikTok agreed in the comments about her kids’ messes. However, she also came swinging when she got called out.
The mom clapped back at her critics about the shed homes.
@hippie.goes.wande It's a great transition between living at home and living on their own. They get privacy, a little more independence and I don't have to deal with their mess! Bonus!

In the TikTok video, the mom shows two sheds her teenagers live in on her property in her backyard. She has three sheds: one for her 15-year-old, one for her 18-year-old, and a third for her “college kid” for when he comes home.
Because both of the latter sheds have extension cords hanging from outlets and are exposed without being secured somewhere, people called out the mom for the condition of two of her sheds.
They also commented on the insulation.
And, since the 18-year-old’s shed also has a ton of empty cups and cans on a folding table in his living area of his shed, which was once part of a tiny home, the mom faced a ton of criticism from other TikTok users. The idea here is for the mom to give her kids independence and their own spaces, while still living at home. But for some people, the cleanliness and overall construction leaves much to be desired.
“So you have no rules, taught them nothing about cleaning, and don’t punish them,” someone commented, without sparing any feelings. “Got it.”
Another user wrote, “I could never, I would lose my mind on the filth of those places. Them kids would be cleanin’ those places! Lol.”
Others applauded the mom for a fun idea that their own kids would love to be able to have at home.
Some even said the setup would have been their dream as a kid. But those who aren’t wild about what the sheds look like were quick to share their opinions with the mom on TikTok.
“Idk, it’s giving dog houses,” another wrote. “I get the independence, but the unfinished ones look sad. At least add insulation and paint.”
But, when someone commented to say that the mom shouldn’t have shared her video, she replied with, “I got nothing to hide. People [are] going to talk no matter what you do.”
She also clapped back with “someone is obviously new here” when someone said that she failed to teach her kids important house rules about cleanliness.
After another user commented about the mom being “brave” to share the details, she was quick to reply to them too.
“Hey with me, what you see is what you get,” she wrote. “Life in the raw. I find it sad that our society has been trained by influencers that only ‘perfect’ is allowed to be seen.”
