Man Stuns Churchgoers After Running Down Aisle and Leaving Child on the Altar

A video of a man in Spain is making the rounds and it is truly bizarre. The man, who remains unidentified, is seen sprinting into a church on the Spanish island of Tenerife with a small child who is believed to be his son in his arms. Worshippers had gathered to observe the Octava del Carmen service being held in the San Agustin neighborhood of Los Realejos.

In the video, the man was wearing shorts and a T-shirt and no shoes on his feet. He was seen running toward the altar of the church with the child sitting on his shoulders.

People attempted to stop him, but he ignored them as he continued running down the aisle. At one point, the video shows him push one of the guards out of the way so that he could place the child on the altar.

Eventually, he makes his way to the altar and places the child at the feet of a Virgin Mary statue before running away and leaving the child alone.

The video ends, but the Daily Mail reports that those attending the service stopped him from leaving the church, imploring him to go back for the small child.

He ended up taking the child from the altar, kneeling and asking the congregation for forgiveness before leaving. When he finally did leave, everyone clapped.

"For anyone confused as to what is happening here, there are traditions in Spain where the more fanatical worshippers send babies and children over crowds so that they will touch the virgin. The idea being that physical proximity will make the virgin protect them in future life," someone said on Reddit, according to the Daily Mail.

"That is a desperate man trying to cure his devil child. Either that, or movies have lied to me," another commenter quipped.

Hopefully the man received whatever he was hoping for.
