Months after a mom was killed while parasailing in the Florida Keys, her husband is recalling the horrifying moments that led up to her death.
During a family vacation last year, Supraja Alaparthi, 33, was killed after the captain of the boat allegedly cut the line to the parasail, causing the woman to crash into a bridge, according to the Independent.
“Whatever he was doing, it was concerning for all of us. I didn’t exactly see when he cut the rope,” her husband Srinivasrao Alaparthi told Good Morning America. ”It was a terrifying and horrible moment.”
He added that his family is processing her death "one day at a time."
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigated the incident and said the captain cut the line because the parasail was "dragging" in high winds from a storm.
Her family told employees of the parasailing company that they would reschedule the excursion if weather was an issue. However, they were told it was OK to move forward with the trip.
“There were so many opportunities for them to stop this from happening but yet, there’s failure, after failure, after failure,” attorney Pedro Echarte told Good Morning America.
Alaparthi's nephew and son were also injured during the incident. Now her family is suing the captain of the boat, a crew member, and the resort that owns the marina where the boat was docked.
The captain has also been charged with manslaughter and pleaded not guilty.
