What to Know
In a lot of ways, local news does not hit quite like watching longtime nationally recognized anchors on networks like CNN or NBC. But every once in a while, they’ll do something to surprise viewers and keep them on their toes and for that, we can all appreciate local news a little more than we probably do. A news network that serves the Texas and Oklahoma region proved that when it aired an exchange between a newscaster and weatherman, both of whom were unafraid to be far sassier than people are used to seeing on live television.
You have to expect that there is sometimes drama between local news personalities who appear on the news together every single day. But in the clip that was shared across social media, it seems like some potential un-aired tension gets the better of the two and they find it hard to keep up the polite smiles and banter. Really, it makes me want to watch the news more, if only to see some juicy drama unfold as clear subtext between two news anchors.
People think there is some tension going on behind the scenes at this news station.
In the clip, meteorologist Michael Bohling calls out newscaster Carney Porter when she tries to promote an event and says there isn’t any rain in the immediate forecast. However, he reminds her, he just explained there is rain on the horizon. And, yeah, it’s a bit of an awkward back and forth moment before the clip ends.
“In the next few days, we have Midland Weather Radio Day,” Porter says.
Bohling says in response, “I just said a second ago, we have rain in the forecast.”
After they talk over each other for a few seconds, Porter tells Bohling, “Stop trying to correct people and just do your job.”
Then, after Bohling says he doesn’t understand why Porter doesn’t listen to him, she gives him a drawn out, “Because you’re boring.”
When someone posted the video on Facebook, other users commented to share their surprise at the moment between the KFDX pair going at it. Some even took sides in the would-be spat.
But, as juicy as it might have been to see the incident happen in real time, according to Bohling, Porter is so much like a sister to him that this banter is totally harmless. I know, it would be a lot more interesting if there was potential for even more heated arguments between the two, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“We literally talk trash to each other all day, and sometimes it comes out on-air,” Bohling wrote in a Facebook post, addressing the viral video. “Trust me, it’s all love.” Later, he made another post about his friendship with Porter. He explained in that post that they have been there for each other through a lot and that anything viewers see between them is all from a place of love.
“Carney and I love each other like family,” he wrote. “I promise you that. Any time you hear us bicker, we are just messing with each other. Because at the end of the day, we always have each other’s backs.”
