Dad Catches Heat After Pouring Bottle of Champagne on Preschooler’s Head for Her Birthday

A champagne shower isn't an uncommon way to celebrate a special occasion. But usually the participants are old enough to drink the champagne. A dad on TikTok is going viral after sharing a video of him pouring champagne on his 3-year-old daughter's head to celebrate her birthday. And the little girl definitely doesn't look thrilled.

A TikToker who goes by the name Aunt Karen shared the initial video of the little girl and expressed her concerns. In the video, the preschooler tries to move away as her father pours foaming champagne on top of her head. She tries to cover her face as the foam sits on her hair.

"Would you be OK with this?" Aunt Karen captioned her post.

"What were you thinking? We’re pouring champagne at a 3-year-old birthday party, on a 3-year-old," Aunt Karen says in a green screen over the initial video. In her commentary, she admonished the Black community for engaging in such behavior. "This feels like too much to me."

"Who’s we?!?!" one person asked in the comments.

"This is not a Black people thing… This is not collective group behavior. Shame on you for getting on the internet with that mess," another person added.

"Umm, I’m Black, and not one Black person I know does this, so don’t generalize. Thank you," someone else chimed in.

Despite some people's protestations, other's claimed that the actions were found in Haitian and Caribbean celebrations.

"In Haitian culture, parents will do this for great fortune/celebration," someone explained.

"In the Caribbean, this is common, and I used to love it as a kid. She’s not hurt, lol," another person added.

"So am I the only Haitian [whose] mother opened a bottle of champagne over her head every birthday? She did it for 18 years," someone else shared.

In her commentary, Aunt Karen questioned the other adults who were present while the child was clearly uncomfortable with what was happening to her. She wonders why no one stepped in to stop it, or at least offer the little girl a napkin.

"The mother probably was recording," one person commented.
