The full-size version sings and swims in the water
According to the release, the recalled full-size toy has a "hard plastic top fin with three grooves on one side, measures about 7 inches from nose to tail, and were sold in three colors: yellow, pink, and blue." Additionally, they were sold singularly or in packs of three.
The hard plastic is hazardous in the water
In the recall release, Zuru says it is aware of 12 reports of kids falling or sitting on the full-size Baby Shark bath toy, which has resulted in "impalement injuries, lacerations, and puncture wounds." The injuries mostly occurred in kids' "genital, anorectal, and facial areas," with nine of the cases requiring stitches or medical attention, the release says.
Currently, there have been no reports of injury with the mini shark toys.
For your child's safety, discontinue use
"When using the recalled bath toys, particularly in a bathtub or wading pool, a child can slip and fall or sit onto the hard plastic top fin of the shark, posing risks of impalement, lacerations, and punctures," the release says.
Zuru recommends that children stop playing with the toy immediately, and adults reach out to the company to return the toys and receive a $14 refund. The release has the instructions for what to do with the recalled product, including the website where you can submit your information for the refund.
The Baby Shark bath toys were sold between May 2019 and June 2023 at retailers including Target, Walmart, Amazon, Ross, and Walgreens.
