There are certain things in my life that are on my non-negotiable list. Like a dishwasher. This was added to the non-negotiable list when my husband and I first moved in together. Even though I didn't have a dishwasher when I lived alone, I never wanted to get stuck washing dishes that weren't my own. As we have moved through our life together, we added a hypoallergenic dog (his non-negotiable) and two kids (mine); other essential items have been added to list, like a washer and dryer, shoes off at the door and everyone takes their dirty clothes to the hamper. While these incarnations are fairly benign, my list of non-negotiables got one more recent addition when I discovered the LG HOM-BOT vacuum cleaner.
According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average amount of time a woman spends doing household chores exceeds two hours a day. Two full hours spent repairing, cleaning, sorting, organizing, managing, and food and drink prep—with interior cleaning taking up the bulk of the time at 28 minutes. But here's the thing: Doing any sort of repairs inside the home, plus food prep, creates additional mess adding to the time you'll spend interior cleaning. And what I came to realize, none of my current non-negotiables on the list actually eliminate the chore 100 percent. Sand still spills from shoes, albeit just at the entryway, clothes still need to be put in the washer, taken out of the dryer, folded and put away, and the dishes still need to be loaded and then put back in the cabinets (we aren't barbarians just taking clean plates as we need them). So what if I told you that there was a magical fairy device—a small appliance, if you will—that could eliminate your household vacuuming time all together? And then I heard about the LG HOM-BOT vacuum cleaner.
There's something to be said about a home-cleaning device that allows you to spend your time doing something other than the actual chore and getting a great, if not better, result than if you had done it yourself. So here's how this chore eliminator works:
• Two cameras on the vacuum cleaner (one on top and one on the bottom) map your room so it can efficiently clean the space. No more un-vacuumed spots. No piles of missed dirt and sand left for you to step in with your bare feet. The room gets covered thanks to its Revolutionary Dual Eye 2.0 Mapping System.
• The Collision-Safe Digital Bumper sounds like something you would find on a car and you actually might (I'm not a car person) but what any mom knows is that your kid's toys are like gold to them. And the mere thought of something tragic happening to them, especially meeting an untimely demise of an aggressive vacuum cleaner, is surely the stuff nightmares are made of. What the LG HOM-BOT is able to accomplish (and what mom can't do, when she's rushing to get the job done and didn't notice the delicate Lego house built beside the sofa) is to identify objects and circumvent them, avoiding a total destruction and subsequent meltdown from the little ones.
• Smart Resume Function: The beauty of this feature is that, well, life happens and messes are made. Did you discover your kid ate a muffin in their room, leaving a trail of poppy seed crumbs everywhere as if they were Little Red Riding Hood? Just move the LG HOM-BOT to the new space, let it suck up those crumbs, and then return it back to space it was and it will just do its job. No complaints.
Those features totally have me sold, and with my birthday approaching, I have already alerted my followers that I've included this on my Amazon Wish List. But just in case those weren't enough, a couple of other features I thought were cool to play around with? This thing speaks five languages. One of my dreams when I was younger was to be fluent in five languages. That didn't happen but I can totally learn a couple key words to communicate with my LG HOM-BOT and feel like I've at least conquered cleaning in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Danish.
This vacuum is quiet. I know most babies like white noise while they are sleeping—mine do not. And they are extremely light sleepers and wake up at the slightest sound. Vacuuming the old fashioned way was simply out of the equation when they are napping. The LG HOM-BOT is 60 dBs or the same volume as a conversation. That's just under their noise threshold, so now household chores won't have to come to a screeching halt two hours a day.
So what would I do if I had time back in my life that isn't spent dragging a vacuum around? Maybe I could finally tackle that junk drawer or get those baby photos into an album. Or maybe I would just sit on the couch and let LG HOM-BOT vacuum under my feet for once. Not sure yet but at least I know what I won't be doing.
