How to Set Up a Laundry System for Cloth Diapers

Step 1

Sprinkle 1/2 cup of baking soda in the bottom of the bucket to neutralize odors.

Step 2

Place the bucket in the corner of the bathroom. Place the lid firmly on top of the bucket.

Step 3

Swish soiled diapers in the toilet to remove feces. Place each used diaper in the bucket and cover the bucket tightly with the lid.

Step 4

Place the dirty diapers in the washing machine. Run them through a pre-wash cycle in cold water to remove any lingering debris. If your washer doesn't have a pre-wash cycle, use a rinse cycle.

Step 5

Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the washing machine and fill the washer with cold water. Turn off the washing machine and allow the diapers to soak overnight. Newer washers may have a soak setting on the machine you can use for this step.

Step 6

Drain the water from the washing machine.

Step 7

Wash the diapers using a normal hot water setting. Add 1/2 cup of washing soda and a liquid laundry soap to the wash cycle. Add 1/2 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle to restore the pH of the diapers.

Step 8

Hang the diapers to dry or tumble them in a dryer on low heat. Remove promptly.
