The Nanny Diaries

After a surprise announcement in August that rockers Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale were divorcing after 13 years of marriage, reports surfaced that the Bush frontman and father to the couple's three sons (Kingston, 9; Zuma, 7; and Apollo, 1) had had an affair with the kids' nanny.

Stefani reportedly found explicit texts between Rossdale and the nanny, who was subsequently fired. Several months later, "The Voice" judge officially filed for divorce.

Adding tears to the 2015 Summer of Celebrity Heartbreak, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced that they were splitting after 10 years of marriage.

Soon after their announcement, Affleck made headlines for allegedly having a relationship with the couple's nanny to their three children (Violet, 9; Seraphina, 6; and Samuel, 3).

Affleck, however, has denied all allegations of a romantic relationship.

In 2005, near the end of his six-year marriage to Gattaca costar Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke hooked up with Ryan Shawhughes, the former nanny to his two children with Thurman. Three years later, the pair—who welcomed daughter Clementine in 2009—wed in a secret ceremony. They later welcomed a second daughter, Indiana, earlier this year. Hawke, for one, was surprised that his situation was being compared to the tabloid fiasco Jude Law faced. “I don't know what the Jude Law comment was; I assume it was derogatory. But I'll tell you this,” Hawke told The Daily News a few years ago. “I liken my situation to The Sound of Music, not to Jude Law.”

Former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 25-year marriage to Maria Shriver ended in 2011 on the heels of the news that he’d fathered a child, now 14, with nanny Mildred Baena (pictured), who worked for the family for more than two decades. “After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” he said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. … I am truly sorry.”

In 2005, while engaged to the much-younger Sienna Miller, Law, then 32, allegedly had a month-long fling with his kids’ nanny, Daisy Wright, 26. The nanny was fired by Law’s ex-wife and baby mama Sadie Frost (mom to Rafferty, 16; Iris, 12; and Rudy, 10), who caught wind of the affair. “Why is it that the betrayed woman always blames the other woman, and not her cheating man?” Wright noted in an interview with Britain’s Daily Mail. Law and Miller reunited in 2009, and a smug Law said he knew why. “I think women like bad boys. That’s been my experience,” he told Parade. “I just think it’s kind of a given. You know, at a certain age you figure out what works for you and being a good boy never worked for me.” The pair split again in early 2011.

In 2008, Rob Lowe faced a lawsuit from former nanny Jessica Gibson claiming sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior on the part of her famous employer. Gibson—who cared for Lowe’s sons, Erick, now 19, and John, 17—both filed cases against the Parks & Recreation star, but the actor then filed preemptive suits against the hired help, noting that the former employees were using the lawsuits to blackmail him and his family. In 2009, the nannies’ cases were dismissed.

In a May 2012 custody hearing over singer Usher Raymond’s two kids with ex wife Tameka Foster—Usher Raymond V, 5, and Naviyd, 4—she accused the singer of sleeping with one of her bridesmaids, Maya Fox-Davis, who was also one of their nannies. Raymond denied the affair allegations at the time, but in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in September, admitted that the pair had hooked up. “Towards the end of our marriage, I found myself lost, and I just wanted out,” said Usher. “I was faithful at heart, but not faithful all the way.” He was later awarded full custody of his sons.

Despite denials from both Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe, rumors that he’s been unfaithful have plagued the couple all year. The latest allege? A reported dalliance with the babysitter, according to Radar Online and fellow cast member Jacqueline Laurita. “You told me your husband cheated on you several times,” Laurita said on a reunion show, confronting the couple as things got heated. “You caught him with his secretary, the babysitter … and you asked me what you should do.”

Once a cheater, always a cheater? Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Jon Gosselin may have left wife Kate for much younger girlfriend Hailey Glassman, but even after that split, rumors swirled that he continued to bed other women—including Stephanie Santoro (pictured), a nanny who claimed she slept with the reality TV star when he had already started seeing Glassman. “He has cheated on Hailey,” Santoro told In Touch magazine. “We would lie in bed and talk about the future.”

Sometimes the nanny becomes the wife. That was the case for Marsha Garces, who wed comedian Robin Williams—and had two kids, Zelda, 23, and Cody, 21, with the actor—after becoming pregnant with Williams's child while she worked as a nanny to his son Zak (from an earlier marriage to Valerie Velardi). The pair divorced in 2008, after 19 years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences."
