Step 1
Make a rewards chart that lists the housecleaning chores your child should do each day. Check off each chore that has been completed on a daily basis. Allow your child to choose a reward at the end of each week if all chores have been completed.
Step 2
Set a timer for each chore your child needs to complete. If she completes it within the given time, reward her. Or, make it a competition between two children to see who can get their chore completed first.
Step 3
Give your child his own cleaning tools and a special place to store them. For instance, if he is in charge of watering the plants, personalize a watering can by writing his name on it with a paint pen or permanent marker. Find a special place for him to store the can when he isn't using it.
Ideas for Adults
Step 1
Chat with your friends on the phone while you clean. While you are talking and cleaning the time will pass faster.
Step 2
Put on comfortable clothing and turn up your favorite music while you complete your household chores. Gain the benefits of exercise and accomplish your goal of cleaning at the same time.
Step 3
Engage in a competition with your spouse or roommate to see who can get her chores done the fastest. Set a timer and whoever completes her tasks first gets some sort of reward, courtesy of the loser.
