How Having My Daughter Led Me to Go After My Biggest Dream

Once I became a mom, it truly clicked for me. I asked myself, “What do I really want to do?” “What do I really want to be?”

The answer was clear: I wanted to be an inspiring figure in my daughter's life. I wanted to show her that any dream she has she can achieve. That it doesn’t matter what her starting point is. That she doesn’t need to fit society’s mold of a woman, or a Latina woman. She can reach whatever she dreams up.

I am the daughter of immigrants, and I am so proud of that

I faced many struggles growing up, and the life I am living now is pretty much my dream life. That all happened because I had the courage to continue to move forward.

One of the biggest dreams I had was to create my own beauty brand. I told myself, I'm just going to go for it, even if they say it'll be too hard being both a mom and an entrepreneur. I was willing to put in the work and learn how to juggle and work both roles. And in December of 2020, I made my beauty dreams come true and launched my very own brand, Birdy Lashes.

Becoming a mom gave me the strength to finally follow my dreams

Jaylin, my first child, is now almost 2. I'm also currently expecting my second baby girl this fall. Motherhood is a beautiful experience, and it has its difficult moments too. There are days where I just don’t feel well or strong enough. Add in my ever-changing body, sleepless nights, and exhaustion like never before, and it's a journey that's for sure. But it’s also filled me with magical moments — moments where every effort and every sacrifice is worth it.

I’m very grateful to have an incredible support system like my parents and husband who are there for me each step of the way, not only in the journey through motherhood but as a businesswoman. Birdy Lashes is truly a family business, and I am so grateful for that. I try my best to use my platforms like Instagram and YouTube to not only show moms and new moms that your dreams are achievable, but that in the struggle and not-so-great moments, they aren’t alone either.

Taking such a huge leap of faith isn't easy

My biggest piece of advice to working moms and moms looking to take the leap of faith into entrepreneurship is to trust themselves and take it “un dia a la vez,” one day at a time. When the days are passing me by, and I run into overwhelming moments, I repeat this mantra to myself: “Un dia a la vez.” I trust that while no one can do it all, I am doing my best for myself and my daughters.

Use the love for your children as fuel, not only to get things done but fuel to love yourself as well and to work toward making your dreams come true. Trust me, it's never too late and so, so worth it.
