Step 1
Sweep finished hardwood floors with a dust mop, or use a vacuum cleaner on unfinished hardwood floors. When you have finished floors the dust mop works best because you already have a smooth surface to clean, while the suction power of the vacuum works better on rugged unfinished hardwood.
Step 2
Mix 1 cup vinegar with 1 gallon warm water in a bucket. The vinegar disinfects your hardwood floor while using no expensive cleaners and no chemical-based disinfectants.
Step 3
Dip your mop in the cleaning bucket, swish it around to absorb the cleaning solution, and squeeze out the mop thoroughly.
Step 4
Wipe the damp mop over your hardwood floors, and remember to follow the wood grain while wiping.
Step 5
Let your hardwood floors air dry.
