How to Clean Carpets & Remove Greasy Stains

Step 1

Blot any excess grease from the stain with a white paper towel.

Step 2

Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the stain. The baking soda will prevent the stain from spreading and soak up the grease. Leave the baking soda on the stain overnight.

Step 3

Vacuum the baking soda.

Step 4

Apply some cleaning solvent to a white cloth towel. Do not soak the cloth; cover an area of the cloth with the solvent about the width of two fingers.

Step 5

Blot the solvent on the cloth onto the grease stain, working inward from the edge. Keep blotting until the stain is completely removed.

Step 6

Dip a separate absorbent cloth into a cup of clean, warm water and wring until damp.

Step 7

Blot over the cleaned area with the fresh towel and clean water. Do not over-soak the area.

Step 8

Dry the carpet area by blotting it with a clean, dry absorbent cloth or towel.
