The Nightmare Before Christmas (Amazon Prime)

Is this a Halloween movie or Christmas movie? We may never settle that debate, but what we do know is this Tim Burton classic is a must for the season.
The Addams Family (Hulu)

They're creepy and they're kooky, and they're all sorts of family-friendly fun for a Halloween movie night. The animated version has Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, and Lurch living in a macabre house on the hill, only to have an aggressive "interior decorator" try to get them to make their house like all the others in the town. In addition to just being spooky fun, there's also some feel-good messages about how it's OK to be different and what being a family really means.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (Apple TV+)

This classic from the 1960s never goes out of style, thanks to the enduring charm of the Peanuts crew. And now we can finally find it on streaming!
Under Wraps (Disney+)

This is a remake of a movie that was already on the Disney Channel about three friends who accidentally bring an ancient mummy back to life and the adventures they have. It's sweet, hilarious, and fun for all ages. Spoiler alert: The mummy also has some epic dance moves.
Super Monsters Save Halloween (Netflix)

This 30-minute special is perfect for little Super Monsters fans who aren’t quite ready for a long movie and are perhaps getting a little scared of all the Halloween decorations in their neighborhood. The Super Monsters learn that all the creepy Halloween scares are actually mostly just pretend and go so far as to explain how they’re make-believe.
Lego Star Wars Terrifying Tales (Disney+)

For families with kids who are either big Lego fans, Star Wars fans, or both, this Lego Halloween special will be tons of spooky fun. Long story short, Poe Dameron and BB-8 somehow find themselves in Darth Vader's dark castle and learn scary stories from the past. It may be best suited for slightly older kids who aren't so easily scared.
Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest (Amazon Prime)

This is a perfect Halloween flick for toddlers/preschoolers who love Curious George. It's silly, not too scary, and not too long. All wins in our book!
The Witches (HBO Max)

This more recent film version of Roald Dahl’s classic novel stars Anne Hathaway as the Grand High Witch in this kids vs. witches tale. Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Rock also star in this entertaining movie.
Toy Story of Terror (Amazon Prime/Disney+)

Woody, Buzz, and the gang are back in this movie that has them all searching for a missing Mr. Potato Head at a spooky motel.
Room on the Broom (Apple TV+)

If you’ve read the Julia Donaldson book aloud to your toddler, you know what this short film is about. If you aren’t familiar with the book, it's about a nice and kind witch who makes room on her broom for any animal that asks for a ride.
Hocus Pocus (Disney+/Amazon Prime)

No Halloween movies list would be complete without the ultimate Halloween classic that’s still popular years later. The Sanderson sisters never fail to entertain! Needless to say, this one's best with the older kid crew.
Goosebumps (Amazon Prime)

Based on the R.L. Stine books we probably all read as a kid, this 2015 movie starring Jack Black still holds up in 2021.
Paranorman (Netflix/Amazon Prime)

This engaging stop-motion film follows Norman, a boy who communicates with the dead, and in the process of using his powers, uncovers a town mystery.
Hotel Transylvania (Amazon Prime)

Imagine Dracula is actually the founder of a resort for monsters and other creatures of legends and all the adventures that may occur at this hotel. The “monsters” are actually hilarious and likable and everyone will have a great time watching this one.
Frankenweenie (Amazon Prime/Disney+)

Tim Burton fans will remember this black-and-white stop motion film from 2012 that retells the classic Frankenstein story with his signature Tim Burton whimsy.
Spooky Buddies (Disney+)

Fans of the Airbud/Buddies dog series of movies will love this Halloween-themed version. Cute talking dogs in adorable costumes, what’s not to love? This is a great one for kids young and old.
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (Amazon Prime)

Another great one for the smallest member of the family, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and the gang have a Halloween adventure in the Hundred Acre Forest.
Casper (Amazon Prime)

Christina Ricci stars in this 1995 film about the friendly ghost we’ve all come to know and love. It's silly with just a little bit of spook, making it great for families with kids of all ages.
Ghostbusters (Amazon Prime)

The original Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, and Harold Ramis is a great intro for the new generation before the latest installment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, comes out.
Edward Scissorhands (Hulu)

This holiday classic stars Johnny Depp as the lovable Edward Scissorhands and is the ultimate underdog tale. Parents may want to note that much of the subject matter and imagery may be too mature for younger kids, so save this one for a special big kids' movie night instead.
