Prince William Raves About Game Princess Charlotte’s Loves as ‘Careful’ Intro to Royal Life Continues

Prince William recently got asked about his daughter Princess Charlotte and her love for sports, especially soccer. The dad of three has always openly supported his daughter’s love for the sport, taking her to matches over the years. Part of his job as Prince of Wales is president of the governing body of sports in England, and as a soccer lover himself, he takes it very seriously. Women’s sports, and more specifically, women’s soccer, has gained popularity over the past decade, and it’s really cool to see that as a dad, William not only embraces his daughter playing, but is actively proud of her.

The love Princess Charlotte has for soccer is well known.

On May 13, 2026, Prince William discussed his only daughter’s love for soccer while presenting Kerry Davis with an MBE for her contributions to the game and diversity in sports, the Independent reported.

In a quick interview after the ceremony, Davis revealed that during her brief conversation with the royal, she asked about Charlotte because she knows that she enjoys playing soccer.

She also shared that the prince called her a “pioneer” of the sport.

Davis was the first Black woman to represent England’s women’s soccer team, GB News reported. During her 16 year career, which began in 1982, she played in several major tournaments, including a 1984 appearance in the European Championships and the 1995 World Cup.

“When I was at school it was netball, rounders, there was no football,” Davis said of how the sport of soccer has progressed over the years. However, she added that “the women’s, the girls’ game is probably 100 years behind the men’s game.”

Soccer has become a father-daughter experience for the duo.

In July 2025, Princess Charlotte was by her dad’s side in Basel, Switzerland, watching England’s women’s team play Spain in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. After England beat Spain in a shoot-out, the royals got to go down to the soccer pitch to congratulate the team.

A video was shared on the official Prince and Princess of Wales Instagram account.

“An incredible night for @lionesses and @england in Basel. Congratulations to Sarina, the team and all the support staff. Champions!” the caption read.

In the video, Charlotte can be seen at her father’s side as confetti rained down around them.

Back in 2022, William visited the team, called the Lionesses, at their practice facility and passed on a message from his then seven-year-old daughter.

“Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she is really good at goal,” the proud dad said, as reported by Hello! “She said, ‘Please tell them that.’ She’s a budding star for the future.”

The young royal is slowly being introduced to what her future could look like as a working royal.

The tween, who turned 11 years old on May 2, is making more public appearances alongside her parents as she gets older. Of course, it will still be quite a while before she would be considered a working member of the Royal Family. But that doesn’t mean her future isn’t being talked about behind closed doors.

“I was told the King wanted to reserve the Duchess of Edinburgh role for her, which could happen,” royal author Robert Hardman told Hello! “But I think she’ll be the Princess Royal, as Anne is. There’s no better model.”

Emily Nash, the royal editor for Hello! had nothing but praise for Charlotte, saying she was “fairly comfortable” in front of cameras, which could benefit her in the future..

“Her parents are introducing their children to the spotlight in a careful and controlled way, and she seems to be taking these occasional forays into public life in her stride so far,” Nash said.
