Royal Insider Shares How William and Kate are Parenting Their Kids Differently

It sounds like Prince William and Kate Middleton are making every effort to give their three children as close to a "normal life" as possible. At least, that's what a source close to the pair says about the way the royal parents deal with the day-to-day raising of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In an interview with Us Weekly, the insider shared some behind-the-scenes details about the thought process guiding the couple's parenting strategy.

According to a royal insider, William and Kate have made a conscious effort to parent their three kids in a way that allows them to be emotionally healthy adults. "The royals are renowned for being 'stiff upper lip,' but William and Kate have a more modern approach to parenting and are moving away from that mentality," the source explained, adding that both communication and boundaries are key for them.

They're reportedly teaching George, Charlotte, and Louis "to express their emotions and ask questions to enable them to grow up as healthy adults." Their approach isn't exactly unconventional, but when you take into consideration the fact that William and George are second and third in line for the throne, the break with the traditional way the royals remain stoic in even the most trying of times does seem pretty monumental.

They even avoid calling George by his royal title

It doesn't sound like the future King of England gets too much special treatment at home. According to the source, part of William and Kate's push to give their kids a normal life means that not too many people refer to George by his royal title. "He's not called Prince George at school and is simply known as George. He mixes with children his own age," the source revealed. "Kate and William don't shower him with expensive gifts nor do they over spoil him. George makes his bed every morning. All the children have impeccable manners and always say please and thank you."

We love the idea of the young royals making their own beds each morning!

That doesn't mean that there aren't perks for the royal children

Even though William and Kate make every effort not to spoil their children, there are some undeniable perks of being part of the royal family. George recently attended two games where he got to watch England face off against challenging soccer teams in the quest for the championship title. Sadly, his team lost, but it didn't look like he let that put a damper on the day. Plus, who could be sad with incredible seats like that! The royals were super close to the action during both outings, which had to be exciting for the tiny soccer fan.

Prince Harry has been pretty vocal lately about all of the negative ways growing up as a royal impacted him as a child — and he's even taken a few swipes at his father's parenting style. We have to wonder if William has been extra conscientious about Harry's complaints as he's navigated becoming a dad himself.

While we don't know how much William (or Harry's) childhoods have influenced William and Kate's decision to let their children be kids for as long as possible, we do know that they're serious about keeping a lot of details of what it means to be royal from them.

That includes waiting until last year to let George know what his future might hold. According to sources, William and Kate didn't tell their oldest son about his claim to the throne until sometime around his seventh birthday.

We think that says a lot about the methods William and Kate are using to raise their children. For that, the royal parents have a lot to be proud of.
