Patrick Mahomes’ Mom Struggles With His Fame: ‘I’ve Cried a Lot’

Fame comes with many perks, but it also had a dark side. Randi Martin is mother to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, so she knows this firsthand. She appeared on "The Mom Game Podcast" in June 2024 and opened up about it. She got honest about struggling with life in the limelight because of her son's fame.

Randi is a mother of three. She shares adult sons Patrick and Jackson with ex-husband Pat Mahomes. She has a daughter Mia, 12, from another relationship.

Randi acknowledge her privilege but also opened up about the cost. “As much as I say that we’re blessed and Patrick’s living his dream, it has been the hardest seven years of my adult life,” she admitted. “It’s been really hard to juggle … I’ve cried a lot. I’ve struggled with it.”

Randi went on to confess she is sometimes "jealous" of her friends and their kids with "normal" lives. Patrick's fame impacts how she and her daughter Mia live their lives. “We just want to be normal and go and have dinner and we don’t do that,” Randi stated. “My daughter [Mia] and I, living in our town, we rarely go.”

Randi works as an event planner. People often try to use her business contact information to get to Patrick. It makes it hard to know which leads are real.

Despite her struggles, Randi tries to shield her kids from her stress. “[Patrick is] working his tail off every day… doing what he needs to do and has his family and kids,” she explained. She does not want to put anything on him. Patrick shares Bronze, 1, and Sterling, 3 with wife Brittany Mahomes.

Randi also alluded to how Patrick's fame negatively impacted her son Jackson. According to mom, Jackson has been put “through the ringer” because of it. In May of 2023, he was arrested for aggravated sexual battery after an incident with the owner of the Aspens Restaurant and Lounge. He was accused of pushing a waitress and forcibly kissing Aspen Vaughn. Jackson ended up pleading no contest to a lesser battery charge in March of 2024 and getting six months' probation.

These days Randi copes with the stresses of fame by putting one foot in front of the other and reaching out to close friends. “It’s one day at a time,” she explained. “I’ve cried myself to sleep reading some of the things that I know that my kids see. I’ve kept my close friends close… it’s really been hard.”
