Ava suffered the accident just before her fourth birthday
Alfonso first broke the news about Ava's accident on Instagram on Tuesday. "Happy Birthday to my sweet Ava Sue," he began a lengthy caption that accompanied several photos from his daughter's birthday celebration.
"As some of you know, Ava had a very difficult week," he continued. "I'm so proud of how well she handled everything. She's so brave strong and creative. I love everything about my little girl."
He gave his wife a shout-out for taking care of their little girl during such a scary time
It sounds like things were pretty rough for not only Ava but her mom, Angela Unkrich, and Alfonso made sure to recognize his wife in his post, saying how grateful he was for her attention and care while their daughter was hurting. "Long nights with a little girl in pain and having to apply medication every few hours," he continued. "My two heroes."
Ava's injuries required surgery
In a later post, Alfonso detailed exactly what doctors needed to do to ensure that Ava heals properly after her fall.
"Not the kind of day you want the day before turning 4," Alfonso wrote, sharing pictures of Ava's injuries. He went on to thank medical professionals for providing an "emergency service and procedure to help lessen the likelihood of scarring. So proud of how brave my baby girl was during the surgery."
Alfonso updated everyone on Ava's condition during his 'Live' appearance
"On Thursday, unfortunately, my daughter got injured and had to have emergency surgery," Alfonso revealed to hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. "So it was a very stressful weekend. She fell and had basically road rash on her face and arm, and so they had to scalpel off all the skin."
When Mark asked about Ava's prognosis, Alfonso replied that it's "going to be a long process." Poor kid!

Apparently, Alfonso's wife predicted this

In an odd turn of events, Alfonso said Angela had a premonition that something was going to happen to Ava. "The hard part of it is that my wife really listens to her intuitions, and she actually on Thursday brought everyone into the kitchen and told everyone, 'I have a feeling my daughter is going to the ER this week. Do not let her do anything that she can get hurt doing,'" Alfonso recalled.
Fortunately, it sounds like Ava is already on the road to recovery. We hope she feels better soon!
