10 Celebrity Parents Who Decided to Change Their Child’s Name

Choosing the right name for a baby is one of the most fun, but also potentially stressful, parts of the pregnancy experience. There are so many options to consider that it can be overwhelming, even for celebrity moms and dads. Should they choose something tried-and-true traditional? Shout-out to all the Henrys and Avas out there! There are always trendy names to consider, or the vibe could be something more unique or colorful, like Apple, Blue Ivy, or North.

Most parents, including celebrities, pick a baby name and then happily stick with it once their little one has arrived. However, sometimes the name doesn't seem quite right. Maybe the baby just doesn't look like a Wolfe. Or maybe someone gently points out that the baby's name sounds borderline inappropriate when it's said out loud.

Heck, the vibes could just be off for some unknown reason, and the celebrity parents make the decision to change their baby's name. This can result in some online teasing or even endless speculation about what the new name will be when parents hold off on announcing what it is for months and months! While, yes, we are throwing a little shade at Kylie Jenner for waiting so long to share her son's name, it turns out she's far from alone. Read on for 10 celeb parents who changed their child's name.

Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick

We all know Kourtney Kardashian's youngest son by the name Reign Aston Disick, but it turns out there was a time when his name was actually Preston. Kourtney shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she and Scott couldn't agree on a name and tried out several options, including Preston, which he had for a day. Kourtney eventually won the fight, and the name Reign stuck.

Grimes & Elon Musk

Elon Musk and singer Grimes have two children together (Elon is giving Nick Cannon a run for his money with 10 kids by at least three different mothers), and they infamously named their son X Æ A-12. They were forced to change his name to X AE A-XII because California law wouldn't allow numbers or letters not in the English alphabet. Too bad they couldn't force them to change it to an actual name and not just a random series of letters!

Amy Schumer

Amy Schumer's original name for her son, Gene Attell Fischer, was meant to be a sweet name to honor her friend, the comedian Dave Attell. But after her son was born, she realized that the name sounded an awful lot like the word "genital," so the kiddo was renamed Gene David, which keeps the honor in place but lowers the risk of teasing later on.

Kylie Jenner & Travis Scott

When Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott first announced the birth of their second child together, they shared that his name was Wolfe Jacques Webster. Shortly after, Kylie announced on Instagram that his name wasn't Wolfe any longer, but it took them months and months to finally share that his name had been changed to Aire.

Caterina Scorsone

Caterina Scorsone, who stars on Grey's Anatomy, has three kids who all have great names. Her daughters are Eliza, Paloma (who goes by Pippa), and a baby who goes by the name Lucky. When she first announced the little one's arrival, Caterina said her name was Arwen. A few months later, she revealed that they were actually using a nickname for the girl derived from her middle name. So Arwen became Lucinda became Lucky!

Casey Wilson

Comedic actress and podcast host Casey Wilson changed one of her three children's names, but we don't know which one. We know she did, though, because she posted a comment on Kylie Jenner's Instagram that said she'd been there and promised that it gets easier. Hmm, we want more details, please!

Jed & Katey Duggar

Here's another possible baby name change mystery. Jed and Katey Duggar have a son whose name was announced as Truett, with the nickname of True. But fans recently noticed that the baby was being called "Bill" in a video, which is certainly not a normal nickname for Truett. So did his name get changed? No confirmation on that from the Duggars yet!

Catelynn Lowell & Tyler Baltierra

Teen Mom stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra have a family full of girls, including daughter Vaeda (now 4 years old). According to Catelynn, Vaeda's name was originally going to be Tezlee, but the name started to make them cringe, so they switched it up.

Kathryn Hahn

Kathryn Hahn, who is fabulous in basically everything she stars in, tends to keep her personal life pretty quiet. We do know that she has two teenage kids (Leonard and Mae) and that last year she filed a petition to have both of their names changed to include her last name in addition to their father's name.

Aaron Paul

Getting a name change was a family affair for Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul. According to a report by the Today show, Aaron, his wife, and their baby all got name updates in 2022. "The couple's surname has been legally changed from Sturtevant to Paul, and their 8-month-old son's first and middle name has been legally changed from Casper Emerson Paul to Ryden Caspian Paul," the outlet explained.
