The Internet Is Divided About Young Couple Who Chooses To Travel Instead of Have Kids

There’s nothing wrong with a couple making a joint decision to go through life as a pair without starting a family. But when one young couple shared as much in a video posted on X, and shared the many bound books detailing their travels, the internet was divided on what to support for the couple.

On the one hand, they’re obviously free to do what they want. But on the other hand, some parents can’t imagine going through life and growing old and having no children to show for a life well-lived. To them, the couple’s books full of photos and memories from various trips won’t matter much late in life.

The couple chooses traveling over settling down with kids

The video, which was originally shared on TikTok, shows a couple on the screen. Text on the screen says, “So when are you two having kids?” Then, the couple looks at each other and the camera turns around to show binded books with labels of the different countries they’ve traveled to together. The idea seems to be that they probably won’t have kids, or they won’t have them for quite a while, due to their traveling.

The books have the years and country names where the couple has presumably traveled. No one is saying that you can’t travel with kids, but it’s not like you can take a newborn on an African safari and feel good about it afterwards. From that point of view, it seems like the couple has the right idea. But people have a lot of thoughts where these two are concerned.

The memory books won’t be there to take care of the couple in old age.

According to some users who commented on the video on X, those books might be fun reminders of past trips, but they won’t be there to take care of the couple when they are too old to care for themselves. Instead, a child might do that once they grow up. No, that’s not a real reason for the couple to give in and have a kid, but it’s one strike against them as far as some people are concerned.

“Best comment I read on a post was ‘and they’ll all be thrown in the trash by their immigrant caretaker when they die,'” one user commented on X.

“All of those books will end up in a landfill when they’re gone,” a user added.

And, the user who shared the video on X wrote, “This kind of “traveling” is overrated. Tourist destinations are all the same. A resort in Florida is like a resort anywhere else. These kinds of people think they’ve “seen the world” but they’ve seen less of the world than someone who reads books instead.”

Someone else wrote, “Tbh some people should not reproduce. On the other hand, they can burn those books for warmth in their old folks home.”

“Fast forward 40 years when they’re dead and some landlord [is] just pitching all those photo books in the trash because there is no one who cares,” an X user also commented.

But some people understand where the couple is coming from.

After the X user made the comment about burning the books someday, another person replied to them to say, “And people who have children will also be in the old folks home with them, except they won’t have books to burn for warmth.”

Yes, that’s right. Some people do agree with the couple’s sentiment on either not having kids or waiting a while so they can travel and have time together before they even consider children.

Another person wrote, “It’s not a pissing contest. Why are you bringing down someone else’s happiness for absolutely no reason?”
