A Millennial Mom Went Viral For Saying What Moms Really Don’t Want on Mother’s Day

As a mom, I am contractually obligated to say that anything I am given on Mother’s Day will make me happy no matter what. And yeah, that’s pretty much true. But when a mom by the name of Meg Ellis shared in a TikTok video what most moms really want but may not say, it hit home. In the comments, other moms agreed with her assessment, so it’s safe to say her ideas about Mother’s Day hit for plenty of other moms out there.

She also shares in her video what moms don’t want, which can be equally as important. Sure, it might depend on each mom specifically and her own tastes. However, she adds in her video, most moms are pretty “easy to please,” and those of us who just want to be appreciated and for our kids to show that appreciation proves that. Come on, it’s legit not rocket science at this point.

She doesn’t want to have to plan her own Mother’s Day.

In her video, Meg says that she wants to share what millennial moms want for Mother’s Day and what they are tired of getting, or dealing with. As the magic makers, vacation planners, and all around hoof time gals of the family, we definitely deserve to be heard with this one.

“We don’t wanna make any decisions,” she says. “We don’t wanna think about anything except resting and sitting. We don’t want anything that says ‘mom’ on it. We know we’re the mom. We don’t wanna have to anticipate anybody else’s needs. That’s the other parent’s job. For the entire day, in fact, she wants her needs anticipated for the entire day. We don’t want to not spend the day with our kids.”

Heavy on the no items with ‘mom’ on them, please. Maybe that was cute when some of us first became moms, but at this point, can we just not?

Meg continues in her video, “At least me personally, I definitely wanna be with my children on that day. But I don’t want to plan the day, wanna have to do any thinking. I think that’s the moral of the story here, is to make all the plans and make all the decisions and anticipate everybody’s needs, including hers. We’re really easy beings to please.”

Other moms shared their own wants and ‘don’t wants’ for Mother’s Day.

Some moms shared their anxiety about Mother’s Day in general. Others commented that they want zero pressure for anything on that day of all days.

“I also add that I DO NOT want to worry about what to get for HIS mother!” A mom commented.

To the same tune, “We don’t want to have to sit at our in-laws’ house for multiple hours with all of our children, in a not baby-proofed or kid-friendly space.”

“I just want my french toast, my mimosa, and for his mother not to come over,” someone else wrote. Ope.

Another mom, who has a teen, wrote that she just wants attention from her teen. That’s another one that hits pretty deeply for us moms with preteens or teens.

And just so we’re clear, another mom wrote, “Gen X mom agrees.”

The mom also shared how she makes it through the day as a millennial mom.

In another video, the TikTok creator shares what helps her “keep her sanity” as a busy mom who is also a millennial. Most of us are here to do things differently and raise our kids, boomer lifestyle -free. But it can sometimes be exhausting to be our own perfect versions of ourselves. In fact, striving for perfection is a big no-no according to Meg.

In this post, Meg used a slideshow to share her wisdom with other moms out there. She cited quiet time, canceling perfection, getting outside every day, and embracing her wardrobe of black leggings as essential to keeping herself sane and happy. And, I mean, I think we can all agree with that. Jeans are for special occasions. Aren’t we all in agreement about that by now?

And, once again, Meg hit it right on the head.

Another mom commented, “All of these for me too! Especially making sure I’m well fed and they can pry my leggings out of my cold hands someday.”
