What to Know
The only thing worse for a liberal grandparent than their child becoming a Donald Trump supporter is their grandchild asking for a Turning Point USA scholarship. Or maybe, both of those things are on par with one another. Who can say? Because when one girl on TikTok pranked her “extremely liberal” grandpa into thinking she was making a video application for a TPUSA scholarship, he couldn’t hide his distaste.
In the TikTok, the girl sits with her grandpa while she talks to the camera about how much her “papa” supports Trump. He seems to play along, but he also gets less and less enthused at the idea of playing Republican for the sake of her scholarship video. Even if it means she could get a free ride to some undisclosed college out there.
She says the video is for a Turning Point USA scholarship.

The joke is, of course, that the liberal grandpa is so far from Republican that everyone just had to see how he would react to being placed in this position. And he does not disappoint.
In the video, the girl tells the camera, “I’m applying for the Turning Point USA scholarship. The reason I chose him today is because he has been a great role model throughout my life.” She is referencing her grandpa, who sits dutifully at her side for the duration of the fake scholarship video.
“His subtle change in smile when you said Turning Point LMFAO,” someone commented on the TikTok.
Another person joked, “He’s considering the cost of just covering that scholarship himself.”
“I like Papa,” someone else wrote. “He doesn’t like lying like Trump does lol.”
Other users just love this girl’s grandpa. He’s basically everyone’s liberal Papa now.
“Oh my goodness. I love him!” Another person commented. “As a woman who is surrounded by family members who are Trump supporters, I hope you love that man with everything you have!”
She takes it a step further by claiming her grandpa voted for Donald Trump three times.
She doesn’t stop at calling out her grandpa for being such a strong role model for her.
“He has shown me how respectable Donald Trump is as a person, and he has shown me how to look after him and do what he does,” she continues. “He has voted for him every time that he’s ran, and he’s been to many Trump rallies.”
At this point, the grandpa asks his granddaughter if she really wants him to respond to her claims and he asks her why she’s lying. Because even if the scholarship means no one has to pay for his granddaughter’s college education, it’s like selling his soul to the Devil to lie about being a Trump supporter. At least, it seems that way, anyway.
“Papa is slowly disassociating,” someone joked, in reference to the grandpa’s slowly fading smile.
Another person joked, “Papa was thinking of how quick he needed to adjust his will.”
You can see the excitement drain from the grandpa when he realizes what’s happening.
As soon as the grandpa realizes how far things are going and the lies his granddaughter tells the camera about his political affiliation, he can’t seem to take it anymore. He breaks character, so to speak, and straight up asks her why she would lie. At this point, the video ends. And, sadly, there is no follow-up for the extremely liberal grandpa.
But there is something to be said for a granddad who will let go of most of his convictions, at least for a little while, in order to support his family members. But saying that he voted for Trump numerous times is a step too far.
