In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I've got a fun craft to make with your little guy or gal this week. Make them before your Thanksgiving guests arrive, and your entertainment will be covered! My girls had a blast making these turkey puppets, mostly because of the messy painting involved in step one. Enjoy!
Supplies needed:
Craft paper
Washable paint
Paint brushes
A pencil
Scissors
A marker
Glue
A red pipe cleaner
Popcorn kernels
Popsicle sticks
Directions:
- First, squirt a few drops of paint onto your craft paper. I chose autumn colors but you could do a rainbow of colors, too. Let your little ones use paint brushes or their hands to cover the paper completely in paint. When the paper is fully covered, let it dry.
- Once the paint is dry, trace your little one's hand with a pencil. I was able to get 3-4 turkeys out of one sheet of paper. Use scissors to cut out each handprint. (An older child could do this with safety scissors!)
-
Then, draw an eye on each "thumb" for the turkey's head. Glue a popcorn kernel on for the turkey's beak, then glue a little pipe cleaner snippet on for the turkey's snood or gobble.
-
When your turkey is done, glue it to a popsicle stick. Finally, put on a Thanksgiving Day turkey play for all of your family and friends!
