Lauren A.’s LEGO® DUPLO® Review

ADVERTORIAL

My son, Logan, is 2 years and 8 months old. He has been playing with LEGO® DUPLO® bricks for a while now. He has a DUPLO set at his grandparents’ house, some DUPLO bricks at school and now a DUPLO set at home.

I like that Logan can play with DUPLO bricks in any way he wants—there’s no right or wrong way to build something. I also like that it’s a safe activity that he can play with on his own, next to another child or with a playmate or parent.

With Logan’s new LEGO® DUPLO® Jake's Pirate Ship Bucky set (#10514), he especially enjoys playing with the cannon, the gold doubloon in the treasure chest, the Jake the Pirate & Captain Hook mini-figures and the window. He’s able to shoot the cannon, open and close the window and treasure chest and constantly has the mini-figures talking to each other.

Logan and I built the ship and island together using the instruction manual. After completion, he immediately started shooting the cannon and putting the gold doubloon into the treasure chest so he can “discover” treasure. Once he was done with the cannon and treasure chest, he pulled all the pieces apart and only played with the novelty pieces (the mini-figures, the window, the flag from the ship, the tree and the flowers). He seemed to be more interested in the relationships between the characters and less interested in building. I think that if the set came only with the building materials, he would have been more likely to build his own designs right away. With that said, it was the first toy that he pulled out the following morning.
