When a creator on TikTok shared a video advertising a comfortable blanket with a large hole cut out, most users flew straight to the comments. Is there really any other way to interact with a post where the use of the blanket isn’t totally clear but appears to be pretty, well, sketchy? Some users in the comments claimed it is a purity blanket, or a blanket used in the bedroom for highly religious couples whose main reason for sleeping together is procreation. Others joked that the blanket is supposed to be a cape and you have to put your head through that hole. Duh.
But, because the actual use for the blanket isn’t totally clear in the video right away, there is a bit of a debate about its purpose for people who want to buy it. At this point, other TikTok users might just buy it out of curiosity, so in a way, the ad may have worked. But if it is a purity blanket, what the heck is it doing in the TikTok Shop of all places?
People are convinced it’s an outdated purity blanket.

In the show The Handmaid’s Tale, a blanket with a hole in it is used to separate a married couple’s bodies when they are consulting their marriage. So for some, the blanket in the TikTok as is real life proof that a purity blanket exists for religious or cultural reasons outside of television. There’s also no other logical reason why people could come up with for what that hole in the center of the blanket is for, especially since the creator sort of implies its use in the bedroom with her fiancé.
“Figured I’d surprise my fiancé with a new after hours ritual,” she says in her video. “And let’s just be honest, this blanket is more for me than my fiancé, because tell me why I’m always freezing cold and he’s always sweating, which, let’s be real, that’s not fun for either of us. And let me tell you, this honey blanket from Honey Labs is really gonna change the game, because not only is it so warm, it also feels so nice and soft. And at this point, with this opening, there’s definitely not gonna be any more blanket wars. And when I brought this to my man, he just about jumped out of his skin. And I honestly don’t think he’s ever put his phone down any faster, because obviously, he wanted to cuddle and have really meaningful conversations.”
She had to expect the kind of comments she got from other users. The implication of what the blanket is for, and her cheeky explanation of the blanket, lead to a lot of comments from people who are sure it’s supposed to be a purity blanket.
“Sooooooo a Gilead blanket, nope,” someone commented, in reference to The Handmaid’s Tale.
To the same tune, a user added, “It’s giving the ceremonial blanket from The Handmaid’s Tale.”
Another wrote, “I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who’s reaction was WTF.”
“Freaky ahh blanket,” someone else joked in the comments.
On the other end of the spectrum, though, a user wrote in the comments, “All yall talking about purity blanket and all I’m seeing is they finally made a blanket for us people who have to have one leg out from under the blanket or we get too hot.”
Another use? Apparently, the hole is an opening for pregnant bellies. “I’m nine months pregnant and thought the hole was for my belly idk why,” a TikTok user commented.
And, someone else agreed, “I thought the hole was for a pregnant belly to stick out and get some air.”
Another innocent perception of the blanket, this time from a gamer, was: “No idea how that’s supposed to work, but I could see myself wearing it like a poncho while playing video games.”
Yes, you can buy the blanket on TikTok.
Even though the user’s TikTok ad received curious comments rather than comments from serious buyers, it’s still up on her profile. And the blanket is 100% available to purchase at this time. The brand, Hunny Labs, has listings for other blankets too on its website that was linked in the creator’s caption.
According to the website, “When the day ends, this is what you reach for. The only blanket that stays on. Designed for two people getting close. A perfect opening keeps one partner warm underneath while the other stays cool on top. No overheating, no pulling it off, no breaking the moment.”
So, uh, purity blanket, right? Maybe not necessarily. The pictures show a woman under the blanket with a man on top, fully clothed, but the idea seems to be that the blanket can be used for cuddling or a variety of acts in the bedroom.
The creator made a follow-up video explaining the blanket’s purpose.

The creator who posted the ad made a video in response to those who commented repeatedly about the blanket being used as a barrier during intimate moments in the bedroom. And, according to her, it needed some clearing up for those who might actually want to buy the so-called purity blanket.
Without saying anything, she shows footage of herself with the blanket and her fiancé enthusiastically climbing on top of her with the blanket on her, the hole positioned in just the right spot for, uh, whatever they plan to do in the bedroom. But let’s be honest. People still see the product as a strange purity blanket.
