If you’ve had a kid in the last decade or so, there’s a good chance that they know who Blippi is. The character, originated by Stevin John in the mid-2010s, is super recognizable. He wears a blue button-down shirt, an orange and blue hat, orange suspenders, and orange glasses. His look has become a fashion symbol to the preschool set. But there are people who apparently have no idea the character exists. Musician Jason Mesches is learning about Blippi the hard way, and going viral while doing it.
Jason Mesches already has a bit of a following on social media.
The California based musician creates music for kids and families, according to his website bio. While he’s been doing it for over a decade, it appears that his popularity may grow thanks to his viral video on Instagram.
In the video, Mesches shares that he just bought a new pair of glasses. He’s wearing them while he’s telling the story, and it’s impossible not to see the comparison.
“This is truly the biggest mistake I’ve ever made in my career,” Mesches captioned the Reel, tagging Blippi’s Instagram page.
He must be living under a rock if he didn’t realize what they resemble.
“My friends were like, ‘Brother, those are some Blippi a– glasses,’” he goes on to say. “And why would I know that?” he asks. “This is the worst day of my life — why would I know that?”
To be fair to Mesches, he added a caption in the video saying that he doesn’t have kids of his own. So it is possible that he’s never been subjected to watching countless hours of Blippi and his songs. But since he works in the children and family entertainment space, it makes me wonder how he doesn’t have at least minimal knowledge.
He tried to plead his case.
“I didn’t meet with Blippi’s production team,” Mesches quipped. “I was busy singing to kids!”
His drummer told him that once he made the realization, the only logical thing would be to return the glasses. But Jason Mesches isn’t backing down so easily.
“Blippi’s gotta return the glasses,” he said. “If everybody knows that these are the Blippi glasses, then maybe he’s been wearing them a little too much! Change up the fashion Blip; you don’t corner the market on bald guy, orange glasses!”
He then reiterated that this was the “worst day of my life.” And if it couldn’t get any worse, he said that the glasses were non-refundable.
People in the comments couldn’t get enough.
Blippi responded to Mesches’ tag, commenting, “Hey twin 👋.”
“Me watching with sound off: what’s Blippi complaining about?” one person wrote.
“Including you there are now 4 Blippis,” someone commented, referencing the fact that three different actors play the character.
Another commenter said, “That blue hat is not helping the situation my guy.”
“You’re telling me you’re NOT blippy???” someone asked, while another person added, “They literally look like his merch.”
“What in the temu blippi is going on here 😂😂😂😂 not gonna lie you look more like blippi than blippi version 2,” a commenter shared.
Someone else asked, “Are you available for parties?”
