Mom Admits She Regrets Naming Her Son After a Popular TV Character

Naming your baby can be hard. Even for parents who think they have it all figured out well before their little bundle of screaming joy is born, it can come down to the moment they are born to figure out what name suits them.

For one mom on TikTok, Jackie, though, the answer was clear as soon as she started watching Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, she admits in her video, she regrets naming her son after a fictional TV character.

Personally, I had my daughter’s name picked out for years from my favorite show as a teenager, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I stand by my decision, and lo and behold, she even met someone at school with the same name.

Chances are, even if you pick a name you never heard of before you watched a TV drama or fantasy show, it might come around eventually. And, I am sorry to say to this particular mom with her regrets, there is no going back now.

@jackrein316 Picking a name for our son was hard and I know it’ll be fine in the end but right now he’s just feeling like he wants to have the same name as his friends #gamesofthrones#babynames #names ♬ original sound – Jackie Reinhart

She named her son after a Game of Thrones character.

Maybe I just understand Jackie well because I am a mom who is not only a fan of Game of Thrones, but also one who named her child after a fictional character from a fantasy drama series.

But there are plenty of names in the Game of Thrones universe that work well as unique names for real life people. According to Jackie, though, she has some regrets.

“I think the name has a beautiful origin to it, I think the name sounds really nice, but I think that when we picked the name, we kind of were like, ‘well I don’t think anyone’s gonna know this character anyway,'” she says in her TikTok.

“But the name is so weird that when I was tucking him in for bed last night, he was like, ‘Mom, I’m never gonna meet anyone with my name.'”

She admits that she told her son he probably won’t meet someone with his same name.

She says that she told her son it’s great to be so unique, but her son sees it differently and he wishes he could meet other kids with the same name as him.

Another issue is that when her son meets new people who have never heard his name before, they have to repeat it more than once to make sure they have it right.

Jackie says she knows that, in the end, it will be fine. But right now, she is realizing for the first time that there are side effects to the name choice that she didn’t anticipate before.

The name, which is pulled directly from Game of Thrones but has a Hebrew meaning behind it, is Jorah. But, in the sea of Game of Thrones fans who had to make jokes in the comments, one mom shared that, just weeks ago, she named her new baby Jorah too.

Hey, they are this close to finding it on a keychain at a gas station on their next family road trip.
