As a parent, what would you do if your child was diagnosed with cancer and their doctors told you that chemotherapy was the standard of care? It must be scary for some parents who are facing the unthinkable when it comes to their children dealing with serious and life-altering health issues, but should fear really lead the way here? A mom is facing major backlash after Child Protective Services was called after she refused chemo treatment for her son who was diagnosed with leukemia.

A TikTok user who goes by handle @haussdrama recently asked if anyone else has seen a mom (who goes by divinegraceministry_ on TikTok) recently post that CPS was going to step in when it comes her 4-year-old son’s health care. According to the video, her son was diagnosed with leukemia and his doctors told the mother that he needed chemotherapy treatment or else his health would deteriorate and he could die.
The mom decided to put her foot down on this matter and refused to get treatment for her son, so CPS told her that if she doesn’t, they would step in and remove her child from her care in order to provide him the treatment that is necessary to his health.
Haussdrama shared a clip from one of the mother’s videos where she said that she has since been mandated by the state to get her son the healthcare that his doctors see fit to his illness. What the TikTok user couldn’t get over was how this mother seemed to insinuate that, even as someone with no medical degree or experience, she knew better than her son’s oncologists.
One of her main reasons for not wanting him to go through chemotherapy was because she didn’t want those kinds of “toxins” in her son’s body.
People in the comments are astounded at this mother’s choices when it comes to her son’s health.
The comments section on this TikTok video are flooded with concerned individuals who are also having a difficult time understanding this mother’s perspective.
One person in the comments stated, “Leukemia is EXTREMELY TREATABLE!” This appears to be true as the Cleveland Clinic shared that leukemia is the most common form of childhood cancer and chemotherapy can cure the cancer in most cases. So, there you go.
One parent offered this up in comments, “My son is alive bc he had chemo.” Another shared how some families, even in the United States, still don’t have access to care when they need it. “Meanwhile there are families fighting for their children to receive care,” they wrote. An extremely valid point!
There’s even a comment from someone who went through cancer as a child themselves. “I am now 36, but at 7 I was diagnosed with childhood leukemia- thank goodness for parents who trust doctors & science,” they wrote. It is a very good thing to hear that their parents trusted their doctors and they went on to live a full life.
Even someone in the medical field popped into the comments to share a surprising perspective. “As a pediatric oncology nurse, this happens not a lot, but way more than you would think,” they wrote. That’s kind of scary to think about.
The mother from the story shared on her TikTok that CPS took her son and she is not allowed in the hospital with him during treatment.
In an update from her own channel, the mother from the divinegraceministry_ account shared a TikTok video with the caption “CPS took my son & trespassed me from the hospital.”
This update may make a lot of worried parents happy because the thought of a little boy not receiving the proper treatments and care all due to a mother’s ignorance seemed like just too much to bear.
Divinegraceministry explained in the clip that she still feels a sense of peace because she feels everyone involved in the situation is advocating to the best of their abilities for her 4-year-old.
CPS is still taking on the child’s care because she was told they were afraid that once the young boy was put back in the mother’s care, she would stop chemotherapy, which she said is “justifiable,” seeing what they just went through to get to this point.
Someone in the comments for the first TikTok video left a comment that the mother may want to check out: “God works through doctors, scientists, and medicine.” Hopefully, the best interests of the child in this case remains centered.
