A common treat with an unusual surprise
Isabelle Piper, a mom who lives on Vancouver Island, went through the Starbucks drive-thru with her kids and got her 5-year-old son a cake pop. He bit into it and said it tasted "funny." So she took it from him, and didn't expect to find what she saw: a red and blue pill.
She 'freaked out' over her revelation
"When I went to give the cake pop to my other son, that is when I saw the pill," she told Global News. "I immediately freaked out and pulled over."
Piper then posted about the incident on Facebook to warn other parents about her finding. "A cake pop is an easy thing to (buy) for your child, and I would be devastated if it happened to someone else’s child," she said.
She couldn't stay silent about this
Piper quickly reached out to the Starbucks she purchased the cake pop from to alert them to her situation. They told her that they were immediately pulling cake pops from both of her local Starbucks stores.
"They said they have contacted the manufacturer (of the cake pops) and that I should email them as well. (I am) confused as to what I should say to the manufacturer, as this seems to be a Starbucks issue to me," she said.
The local police are involved as well
"I handed it over to the police and they will decipher what it is and I will leave it in the hands of the RCMP," Piper told the outlet. The Comox Valley RCMP confirmed that they were aware of the situation and are investigating what could have happened.
