A Dad Had a Great Morning at the Park With His Kids — Hours Later He Collapsed & Was Hospitalized

Life really can change in an instant. Just when you think everything is great and running smoothly, you will get sucker punched or a new roadblock will pop up that you weren’t expecting. And you just have to accept that this is what life is, and learn how to roll with it. Sophie Cromie, a wife and mom of three, knows that all too well. After a day out with her two younger children, her husband David suddenly collapsed. After a series of tests, they found out he had a brain bleed. Thankfully he survived, but the couple learned an important lesson.

She made a video to show how quickly things can change.

@sophwellieswheelsweewans honestly has to be the worst day of my life, but here we are, a year on, and hopefully able to put it all behind us 🥺 #bleedonthebrain #hospital #park #husband #daddy ♬ Cinema – 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞☘𝐋𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐬⋆𝄞

“The fact that life can go from this, to this, in 2 hours, for no rhyme or reason, is terrifying,” Sophie wrote on the video showing her husband playing at the park with their two young children. He is pushing their toddler on the swing, and going down the slide.

Everyone is happy and it’s clear that they’re having a great day together.

Suddenly, the video cuts to her husband laying on a hospital bed being checked out by a doctor with an IV in his arm.

“honestly has to be the worst day of my life, but here we are, a year on, and hopefully able to put it all behind us 🥺,” Sophie captioned the post.

They’ve endured a harrowing year.

@sophwellieswheelsweewans ive never said "em" so much. my brain is not functioning normal at the minute at all. so many things going on in my thoughts I can't even string a sentence together 😅.. disaster 😪 #mumsoftiktok #update #hospital #angiogram #sideeffects ♬ original sound – Sophie | WelliesWheels&WeeWans

Sophie spoke with Newsweek about the experience, telling the outlet her husband David was in “great form” on April 13, 2205. They enjoyed about an hour at the park with their six-year-old daughter Kassi and one-year-old son Kasper, chasing them and playing together.

After the park, they went home and David put Kasper down for a nap before changing into his farming gear. Earlier that day, one of their sheep ended up in the wrong field, so he was going to fix the fence.

As Sophie sat inside putting together a video about their wholesome afternoon, David called her.

Something was very wrong.

“He went straight into asking me, ‘Where are the kids?’” she told the outlet. “It actually made me nervous, thinking Kassi had snuck out or something.”

David told her he didn’t feel right, becoming increasingly more confused as they spoke.

Immediately, she ran with the farm dog to find her husband.

“I was taking all his weight while walking up to the house, and he was still tripping over himself,” she said. “It was clear something was very wrong.”

When David reached the house, he collapsed, feeling disoriented and scared. Since he’s an avid hiker who also stays very physically active, his inability to move was concerning for his wife.

They were unprepared for what came next.

@sophwellieswheelsweewans you see videos of daddy's coming home from tours and theyre so emotional. I honestly never expected such an emotional reaction from kassi the day I surprised her with her daddy home after 5 days, bless her. the oldest new he was coming home, and the baby was not too sure of the big issue 🤔 😅 #cominghome #hospital #bleedonthebrain #daddy #daughter @David Cromie ♬ Coming Home – Part II – Skylar Grey

First, David was taken to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry, Ireland before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. That’s where scans showed he had a brain bleed.

Thankfully doctors believed it had stopped, so he was able to go home five days later.

Sophie shared a video of his homecoming on her TikTok.

Kassi runs right up to her dad and hugs him tightly, while the couple’s 12-year-old daughter Karlee also walks up and gives him a hug. Kasper is happy to see his dad, but doesn’t quite know what’s happening.

“you see videos of daddy’s coming home from tours and they’re so emotional. The next year wasn’t easy.

@sophwellieswheelsweewans storm dave or not, we had a lovely time away 🥰.. but where should I book for our next trip out i Wonder? 🤔 #mumsoftiktok #northernireland #caravan #holidays #easter ♬ Run Away with Me – Louis Island

Following David’s brain bleed, he couldn’t work or drive, and got tired easily. He later had an angiogram that caused a ministroke, but thankfully he is fully recovered.

A year later, Sophie is reflecting on the journey.

“Looking back, what I remember the most is how the man I see as our protector and provider was so scared, and it terrified me,” she admitted.

Her husband’s medical issues have forced the family to slow down and appreciate their time together more.

“Here’s to the future and keeping the past where it belongs,” Sophie said.
