The Hoover Alabama Police Department had been working on the case, and shared that they received a call from Russell's family stating that she had returned home.
"At 10:44 PM on July 15th, the Hoover 911 center received a call from Carlee’s residence that she had returned home on foot," a statement from the police department read.
"Hoover Police and Fire responded to the residence where Carlee was located. She was immediately transported by the Hoover Fire Department to UAB Hospital to be evaluated and was treated and released," the statement continued.
"Detectives responded to the residence and to UAB to take an initial statement from Carlee. The details of that statement are a part of the ongoing investigation which is expected to continue over the next few days," officials continued.
"The Hoover Police Department continues to be extremely grateful for the outpouring of support from the Hoover community and beyond, and all of the assistance provided by our law enforcement partners which are too numerous to name," the statement read. They added that they "rejoice" with Russell's family in her safe return.
As of right now, the Russell family is asking for privacy, but are making plans to speak out in the "near future."
Carlee went missing the night of Thursday, July 13. She was driving home from work, when she stopped to call 911 to report seeing an unattended male toddler in a diaper on I-459.
After calling 911, she called her brother's girlfriend to tell her what happened, according to NPR. It was during that phone call that she went missing. When police arrived on the scene, they found Carlee's car, along with her wig, cell phone, and purse. Her Apple Watch was also inside her purse.
Currently, the Hoover police are still tracing all the steps of the investigation, and have not released any new information on what could have happened to Carlee while she was missing.
