Dad Loses Custody of 11-Year-Old Because He Strongly Opposes Their Gender Transition

A father living in Iceland is alleging that he lost custody of his child because he doesn’t agree that they should be allowed to transition their gender. Alexandre Rocha claims that the Icelandic government is conspiring against him because of his extremely conservative and harmful views about gender transition. His child, who was assigned male at birth has expressed a desire to present as female and take hormone blockers, and their mother got custody of the child because she supports their choices. Now, Rocha is crying to anyone who will listen.

His story was shared by a popular conservative social media account.

Libs of TikTok, a popular anti-LGBTQ group shared a video of Rocha telling his story on their X account.

“No parent should go through this. Children deserve to live free from radical gender ideology, which pressures them to make life decisions they don’t even understand yet,” the post quoted Rocha.

“He is currently fighting to appeal this decision, win back his child, and prevent his son from taking dangerous puberty blockers and hormone injections. Wtf is going on in Iceland?!” the post asks.

He also did an interview with Fox News.

“It should be a crime,” Alexandre Rocha said of medical interventions like puberty blockers and hormone therapy. “You are molesting kids, castrating a boy, like in the case of my kid. This shouldn’t happen. This is an ideology that has no place for kids.”

During the interview, Rocha tried to say his child’s worldview was shaped by Minecraft and Roblox, and they couldn’t possibly understand what being transgender entailed. He even went so far as to say that his child’s Autism diagnosis plays a part in their gender identity.

Rocha claimed the Icelandic court “passed over” the diagnosis during the trial. He claimed that children on the spectrum struggle with “wanting to be something else,” and that his child has previously expressed a desire to be a cat. In court, he said an Icelandic endocrinologist “totally dismissed” him.

According to Rocha, his child’s mother legally changed their child’s name to express their female gender.

Rocha is fundraising for his legal costs.

Rocha started a GoFundMe fundraiser in January 2026. In the nearly three months it’s been active, he’s only raised about 30% of his goal, despite the alleged global concern of social media.

In the fundraiser, Rocha shared a copy of the court’s decision to grant custody of his child to their mother. And from the court documents, it seems that the decision to grant the mother custody came directly from the child.

“The court prioritized the child’s best interests, considering parental fitness, stability, child-parent bonds, risk of harm, and the child’s wishes (given their age and maturity),” the ruling says. “It found that joint custody was no longer viable due to the parents’ inability to collaborate, especially on gender-related matters, which has caused ongoing conflict and distress for the child. The child’s special needs (autism, ADHD, behavioral issues) require consistent support, and the court noted the child’s preference for more time with the mother and recognition of their gender identity.”

Alexandre Rocha is dealing with a problem of his own making.

According to the ruling document, the father was deemed “fit,” but called “resistant to affirming the child’s identity, contributing to relational strain.” Additionally, the mother was “seen as providing more emotional security.”

Ultimately, the mother was granted sole custody, with Rocha getting visitation “every other weekend (Friday after school to Monday morning, or equivalent during summer). Alternating holidays (Christmas/New Year, Easter, winter breaks). Four consecutive weeks in summer (June 1 to August 15). Visitation can occur abroad to facilitate family connections.”

“The court emphasized the need for both parents to support the child’s well-being and gender exploration in line with Icelandic law on gender autonomy.”
