Chris, who uses the username @the_solodad on TikTok, posted a video of the process he went through giving his daughter peanut butter.
"POV: you're an anxious DAD giving your baby Peanut Butter for the first time and your daughter has an allergic reaction," he wrote on the video.
Chris showed how he mixed peanut butter with baby cereal before feeding his daughter. He explained that one of the reasons he was so nervous is because he has people in his family who have bad reactions to peanut butter. After feeding her some of the mixture, the baby threw up before Chris noticed a small rash on her body.
"Now I’m scared to give it to her again does anyone have any experience with food allergies?" he captioned the video.
So many parents filled the comment section with advice and their own experiences with food allergies. Chris went through the comments and thanked people for their suggestions.
"Do not give pb again and tell the pediatrician at the next visit they’ll refer you to an allergist," one comment read.
"My # 1 rule was I never tried a new food right before nap or bed time. I did new foods/allergens in the morning where I could monitor him for a bit!" another comment read.
According to the Mayo Clinic, peanut allergies are increasing in children. They suggest talking to your child's pediatrician, even if they only have a mild reaction to peanuts or peanut butter because future reactions can be more severe. Common symptoms of a peanut allergy include skin reactions like redness, hives or rashes, vomiting, diarrhea or stomach cramps, or itchiness around the mouth or throat.
