With 2021 coming in with a bang, a little bit of lightness is needed across the country. No matter what stage of motherhood you're in, you have to find the moments of happiness within the day, week, month, or year to see the goodness in the world again. Here are some of the ways moms define what “happy” means for them.

A peaceful lifestyle

“'Happy' to me means peace from worry and stress,” says Brittany Davis-Morris, a mom of one sweet girl, marketing professional, blogger, and owner of online clothing boutique Basicalle.

Being loved by family

Felice Bracey, a mom of one, says happy “means the warmth in my son's eyes when he looks at me."

Prevailing despite the circumstances

Lindsay Ford, a mother of two, has a particularly positive definition of what happy means to her. “'Happy' to me is relative. But essentially, happiness to me is having the courage, strength, and desire to prevail no matter what I’m handed.”

Choosing to be in harmony and joy

Dominique Joiner, a believer of holistic healing, founder of wellness site Heal Thyself by DMichelle, and mom of two, focuses her happiness on her whole self. “Happy is simply being in harmony with the moment. Happiness is the choice to embrace the joys within.”

When I’m at ease

Thenedra Roots is a busy mom of three and expecting No. 4. She credits happiness to being content, saying, “'Happy' to me is feeling content. I think often people assume that in order to be happy, you need to be in this state of being overjoyed.” To define what it means to be happy, she says, “For me, it’s the feeling of contentment and at ease, overall, with my life and the people in it.”

Taking care of family

Virginia Duan, a mother of four, writer, and voice behind Mandarin Mama, takes care of her family and friends to get to her own happiness. “'Happy' means knowing my family and friends are safe, healthy, and provided for. That way, I can guilt-free consume all things K-pop band BTS!”

Being content

Jenn Mitchell, writer at Come Back Momma and mother of two, says, “'Happy' means feeling content with who you are in the moment.”

“Not comparing yourself to others, just being proud of who you are and all of your amazingness” is what keeps her staying happy.
