You don't have to wait for carolers to come to your door anymore. If your family is looking for some holiday cheer, stat, you just have to pick up the phone.

Students at Snyder Hall dorm at the University of Illinois are standing by 24/7 until Wednesday, December 16, 11:59 p.m. to take requests for Christmas songs. People from all over the world have called in, with the most popular songs being "Jingle Bells" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (they even have a "Mariah Meter").
The Dial-a-Carol program was started in 1960 when the office secretary of the then-all-male dorm convinced the residents to sing and play carols for random callers.
Just call 217-332-1882 and a student will sing your request live over the phone. Put them on speaker and have a mini dance session with the kids, try it at an office party, or sing along if you're on a family road trip. Wherever you decide, the amateur singers are sure to make you smile.
"Most students of the building participate, regardless of musical ability, religion, or the fact that it's finals week," said Kirsten Ruby, the university's associate director of housing for communications.
Plus you'll be helping them surpass their previous record for most phone calls. (They were past 11,000 phone calls since this morning!) So pick your favorite song and rock around the Christmas tree.
