Tips on Setting Coffee Stained Fabric

Stores offer a range of different products for removing stains comprising powders, soaps and sprays.

You have a higher probability of removing the stain if, after washing the fabric in detergent, you scrub the remains of the stain out in the sink.

For an old stain, rub in glycerine before washing the fabric. This will help to loosen the coffee mark.

If you don't have time to clean the stain at the time, sprinkle salt over the coffee. The salt will not only absorb the moisture but also the pigment in the coffee that produces the stain. Alternately, just leave the stain wet to stop it setting.

Mix 1 tbsp. of white vinegar with 1 quart of cold water. Using a sponge, rub the concoction on the stain. With a tough stain, repeat this until the stain has gone, or leave the stained item soaking overnight.

Baking soda removes stains and odors from material. Sprinkle some over the fabric and rub it in with a wet cloth. Also, with tougher material you can make a paste from baking soda and water. Wait for the paste to dry and scrub the stain.

Lemon juice can bleach colors, so only use it on whites. Sprinkle salt on the stain and add the lemon juice before leaving in the sun to dry. Only do this with fabrics not ruined by sunlight.
