Stress Busting Exercises

Outdoor Excercises

A tried and true way to relieve stress is spending time in the great outdoors. Take a brisk walk or a run around your neighborhood or a local park to boost your energy. Dust off your bicycle, or rent one, and take a ride on your local trail. If the weather permits, slip into your bathing suit and swim laps in a scenic lake or a neighborhood pool. If your children need to tag along, take them to a field and play a long game of tag or pile them in a stroller and push them on your walk to add extra intensity. Mountain biking offers you a great workout and exhilarating scenery to take your mind off of the stresses in your life.

Indoor Exercises

Inclement weather or bothersome allergies does not mean you cannot get your blood pumping and your endorphins circulating. Become a member at a local gym where you can run on a treadmill, step on a stepper or bike on a stationary bike. If you would rather exercise in your own home, purchase a treadmill or an elliptical for the long-term benefits. If you lack the space necessary for such equipment, get a workout video or run up and down your steps to increase your heart rate. You could also tackle stress with a simple 30-minute jump rope routine.

Group Exercises

Sometimes, the best way to relieve stress remains a visit with an old friend. Combine two stress-relieving options by working out with a buddy. This could be as simple as taking a stroll around your neighborhood together or concurrently enrolling in a once-a-week aerobic class at the local gym. The two of you can take up a new hobby or renew an old one with a rousing game of tennis or basketball.
